Job Description

Owing to a demand for more editorial work from our clients and a flourishing editorial team, we are now looking to hire a Principal Medical Writer. In this role you’ll be overseeing and leading content development for designated account teams, providing scientific counsel and guidance as needed and taking the lead on key deliverables of strategic importance to the client. You will be working across a range of therapy areas so you will be expected to be flexible and adaptable in your approach with strong skills in prioritisation and delegation. 

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a passion for healthcare and strong previous relevant experience in medical communications. You will be adept at constructing compelling arguments from complex scientific data. You will be capable of writing and developing scientific content to meet and exceed client expectations, while motivating and inspiring your team to deliver consistently strong results. You will be responsible for the quality, scientific integrity and timeliness of all deliverables for your designated accounts and for ensuring that a client’s strategic and communication goals are being met consistently and cohesively. You will work closely with the account leads on your accounts to drive project completion and organic growth. You will also be a people manager for a team of writers to support them with achieving their fullest potential

Job Responsibilities:

  • Champions best practice among the medical writing team and works closely with the Editorial Team Lead/Head of Editorial to continuously evolve and improve our service offering. Challenges the status quo to ensure continuous improvement in delivery.
  • Mentors and manages members of the writing team, and supports with resource management, training and recruitment
  • Maintains a high profile within the agency for content knowledge and expertise, and leads the content for designated accounts
  • Provides scientific and strategic counsel to clients and internal teams regarding complex narratives/portfolio messaging development
  • Establishes strong relationships with external scientific experts and client teams; viewed as a valued partner
  • Proactively makes recommendations for enhancing programme development and drives organic growth; leads scientific aspects of pitch development with an emphasis on complex narratives and portfolio recommendations

Qualifications

  • Ideally, you’ll have worked within an agency comparable to Langland
  • You will have solid medical writing skills and experience, as you will be responsible not only for the quality of your own editorial work but for providing advice and guidance to other writers and the wider agency
  • You should have client-facing experience and be comfortable developing and maintaining client relationships
  • You should hold a Bachelor’s Degree ideally in the life sciences possibly also with a Master’s Degree or a PhD
