Job Description

Job Summary:  
Selected individual will serve in a Spanish Translator capacity within a Federal government agency focused on oncology, science, and research. They will support the translation of cancer information on a wide range of topics, including prevention, screening, treatment, genetics, supportive care, and integrative, alternative and complementary therapies; dictionaries of general cancer terms and genetics terms. This position will be part of a 5-person cancer content Spanish translation team. The right person for the role will feel comfortable in a highly collaborative environment, while also being able to work independently and take ownership of their assignments.

Responsibilities:
• Develop Spanish versions of cancer content written for both health professionals and patients, including long-form articles, dictionary terms, genetics definitions, labels, captions and image descriptions
• Ensure translation precision, clarity, accuracy, and cultural appropriateness
• Evaluate the complexity of the source document and develop a realistic timeline for translation
• Perform proof reading and quality control for other team members’ translations
• Research and document complex medical terminology
• Utilize a custom-built software tool, for content, graphics files, and glossaries
• Create links within Spanish-language articles to relevant Spanish dictionary terms
• Use SDL Trados Studio Multiterm, Studio Alignment Tool, and SDL WorldServer Translation Management System
• Use Translation Memory Software and Terminology Databases

Requirements:
• U.S. Citizen or U.S. Legal Permanent Resident
• Eligible for U.S. Government Clearance
• Native Spanish speaker
• Bachelor’s degree required from college or university
• Master’s degree in health-related sciences or translation is a plus
• Must have experience within the federal government, healthcare, oncology, research, or science fields
• At least 5 years of oncology/medical terminology expertise
• At least 5 years of English into Spanish translation experience, including editing/grammar expertise
• Extensive knowledge of Latin American cultures
• 3+ years of SDL Trados Studio, Multiterm
• Experience with SDL WorldServer Translation Management System
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate the aptitude for understanding the “big picture” while focusing on accuracy and details
• Proven ability to meet production deadlines and manage multiple concurrent projects
• Display a high degree of initiative and ability to work independently under minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment, as well as a strong commitment to working in a team environment
