General Summary

A Junior Technical Director (TD) in Production Technology provides critical support to a show's artists and department heads. A Technical Director will design, develop, and implement new tools and processes for a particular show or department. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player who has a deep love of developing Animation, automotive, and VFX production pipelines, and is excited to explore the possibilities to innovate and advance the art of animated film technology.

  • Grow, learn, and develop your skills by keeping up to date on the latest production technology.
  • Develop new ways of utilizing the cloud to speed up and improve animated content creation.
  • Inspire artists through new and innovative techniques.
  • Work closely with engineering to ensure tools and infrastructure deliver at the highest level for our artists.
  • Participate in pipeline workflow and development design.
  • Develop quality, reusable code.
  • Liaise with artists and supervisors to gather pipeline requirements.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of the development process.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technologies and industry trends.
  • Provide software and tools support to production and artists.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 1+ years of animation feature film, visual effects, and/or games experience.
  • 3+ years developing with Python. Experience with MEL and Maya C++ API is helpful.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years using industry standard tools such as Maya, Houdini, arnold, redhift and/or VRay in a production environment.
  • Experience with Alembic, Pixar USD, OpenTimelineIO, OpenColorIO, and/or OpenVDB
  • Interest in AI/Machine Learning to develop new ways to create 3D animated content.
  • Positive attitude and growth mindset
  • Enjoy teaching and sharing new workflows and ideas
  • Capable of presenting complex solutions in an innovative, compelling, and easy to understand way
  • Able to take direction and innovate
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, as well as the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations.
  • Familiar with cloud technologies
  • A good understanding of the VFX or feature Animation production pipeline.
  • Excellent knowledge of Python.
  • Strong understanding of Linux/windows.
  • Excellent knowledge of one or more of the following software: Maya, Katana, Houdini or Nuke.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to prioritize production needs and tasks
