Job Description

We are looking for a Medical Director with prior pharmaceutical marketing/advertising agency or consultant experience for potential part-time freelance work.

The Medical Director is responsible for providing scientific and medical direction and recommendations, including the incorporation of clinical, medical and scientific relevance, that will help inform and optimize marketing communications developed by our agency for our pharmaceutical clients's brands.

The role requires deep understanding of our clients’ products (mechanisms, clinical data, competitive differentiators), the conditions they treat (disease mechanisms, epidemiology, standards of care), and relevant prescriber details (practice behaviors, prescribing decision-making process and trends). Notably, the Director must possess the ability to derive actionable insights from this knowledge.

The position will interact internally with Account Service, Strategy and Creative staff. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable training junior agency staff on product mechanisms, interacting with clients, and interviewing external clinical investigators.

What You’ll Do:  

  • Identify trends and insights within assigned disease categories
  • Leverage understanding of client products, disease categories and customer insights for account planning
  • Monitor relevant disease categories for current publications or updates to labeling
  • Assist in the development of market research plans and other insight gathering exercises
  • Brief creative team and oversee creative deliverables to ensure they align with insights and strategic guidance
  • Provide medical and scientific direction for specific projects, including identification of relevant data sets and recommendations on both copy and visual representations of data
  • Provide ongoing training and education for internal staff members
  • Review content for medical and scientific accuracy
  • Participate in new business opportunities as needed

Qualifications

Who You Are:  

  • You have an advanced degree in life sciences: PhD or MD
  • You have 3-6 years of experience in a healthcare communications agency, medical education, medical communications company, or pharmaceutical manufacturer
  • You have experience translating scientific or clinical data into presentation formats
  • You have experience in live presentation of scientific or clinical results to various audience types
  • You have experience interacting with leading researchers and other professionals in the biomedical/pharmaceutical industry
  • You have Authored peer-reviewed publications or presentations of abstracts at major scientific/medical conferences
  • You have expert level written, verbal communication and presentation skills
  • You have a deep understanding of biochemical mechanisms, clinical research and statistical analyses
  • You are familiar with pharmaceutical marketing and details of promotional compliance
  • You have the ability to work both independently and as a team member.
