Senior Strategist

  • Full-time

Company Description

Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) is a world-famous creative agency that makes jaw-dropping, thumb-stopping, eye-opening work for brands across the globe. Founded in London in 1982, we now have offices in New York, Los Angeles, Stockholm, Mumbai, Singapore and Shanghai. Our first ad for Levi’s showed a black sheep travelling in the opposite direction to a flock of white ones. That’s where we got our logo and our guiding philosophy: when the world zigs, zag. Why? Because it’s easy to zig, to go with the grain. It feels safe. It feels like the sensible thing to do. But the greater risk is failing to stand out. We believe in the power of difference to make a difference.

Our goal is a simple one: make the best work in the world. That’s where you come in. We need rebels, dreamers, thinkers, mathematicians, makers, artists, visionaries, doers, observers, the different and the unreasonable. We need Black Sheep. People who want to make the hearts flutter and minds do flips, who can change businesses and culture. People who want to make a difference, come here for something different.

Job Description

Senior strategists drive the process forward. In many ways you are the engine. You excel at all the fundamentals of strategy and, therefore, both lead many of our processes and do a lot of the strategic heavy lifting. You’re increasingly autonomous, leading projects yourself with a small degree of input from your director. You maintain a high degree of rigor, you present well, and you maintain strong client relationships. You lead the writing of briefs and can deliver an inspirational briefing. You’re the connector between departments, gracefully collaborating between disciplines and agencies. You hone in on your unique planning style and grow your skills in upstream business understanding. You’re able to run a pitch process, own the strategy, and deliver great work. You’re a director in training, so this is your chance to practice the role while having a safety net.

We intend for this role to start off as remote but will eventually join the rest of the agency in our NYC office once it is safe to do so.

Responsibilities:

Business and Marketing

  • You proactively identify new areas of opportunity on client businesses. You’re deeply immersed within client businesses and are always on the lookout for new opportunities and account growth

  • You’re a trusted strategic advisor to your client partners and are able to offer sound advice on a range of business, product, marketing, and communications problems

  • You have ideas about how our clients businesses can function more effectively

  • You can isolate the type of marketing solution required by different business problems and can funnel this understanding into our creative strategy

  • You are a champion of effectiveness, able to prove the effectiveness of our work in an ongoing manner and in awards papers

Strategic Craft and the Work

  • Ability to lead the internal strategic process beginning to end — creative brief development, team alignment, creative briefing, creative development oversight, and presentation to the client.

  • Ability to collaborate closely and flex between strategy disciplines

  • You consistently deliver lateral and exciting strategies that work

  • You push your own thinking without more senior support and drive us all to challenge the thinking continually

  • You demonstrate creative ambition, finding ways to impact the creative process and drive us to great work

  • You demonstrate literacy and an enthusiasm for effective work

Culture and People

  • Trusted as a voice of expertise internally, with strong creative and account relationships

  • You foster independent relationships with clients and maintain a direct line to day-to-day client and project partners

  • You demonstrate an ability to represent the relationship and help shepherd the process with external client partners, including other agencies (e.g., Media, PR, etc.) and vendors

  • You’re an active and stimulating voice within the strategy department and agency as a whole

  • You’re a hub of culture within the agency, with close relationships across departments

Qualifications

  • 4-7 years of relatable experience, preferably in a creative agency setting

  • Bachelor’s degree or similar experience

  • You’re a natural-born storyteller

  • You seem to notice all the little things about people that others might miss

  • You can demonstrate a proven track record of delivering creatively inspiring, business-driving briefs

  • A passion for creativity

  • Ability to collaborate gracefully and powerfully across all disciplines

  • Familiarity with Google apps and technical software is a plus

  • You thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
