Job Description

A Proofreader/Quality Analyst is responsible for proofreading, editing and quality controlling the weekly Retail Circular/Insert, Direct Mail, Print Ad and OOH campaigns, along with any other creative deliverables prior to client review. Specific responsibilities include proofreading from concept through final production with direction from project management, agency creatives, production and other agency disciplines. To be successful in this position, you should possess strong proofreading, and more importantly, production quality control skills in reviewing a high volume of mechanical files, versioning and data points. Most importantly, this role is within a deadline-driven business environment, so it requires highly detailed individuals with flexibility who can do what is required to deliver the highest quality and ensure flawless execution.

Core responsibilities include, but not limited to: 

  • proofreads the weekly creative and mechanical files as they are developed to be used for high-volume commercial printing
  • uses data management programs (e.g., SmartSheet, Excel) to verify accuracy of client content against creative (e.g. retail prices, descriptions, government warning boxes)
  • reviews all advertising production materials for print, digital, and creative presentations
  • reviews and evaluates client deliverables for content, grammar, style and accuracy, as well as relevance to selected weekly campaign
  • builds and maintains client-specific writing style guides
  • works collaboratively in a team environment with designers, production and project management to proactively resolve inaccuracies/inconsistencies
  • has a solid understanding of production workflows — both print and digital. Follows client advertising requirements
  • focuses on customer service, recognizing and fulfilling client needs
  • fosters a team relationship with co-workers and all agency disciplines
  • accurately bills time for all work as it applies to the proper internal job numbers on a daily basis
  • takes initiative to expand relevant industry/software knowledge and skills and to share ideas to improve photography, creative design, production or enhancements to internal processes & procedures

 

Qualifications

Work experience, skills and education:

  • 4–7 years of professional proofreading/editing experience in an agency, client marketing department, or similar role
  • proficiency in MS Office products (especially Excel) and Adobe Acrobat comment tools; ProofHQ a plus
  • experience with high volume retail accounts in terms of managing continuous streams of detail-oriented, high volume retails/products that appear across insert/circular versions, posters, handbills, and other POS materials
  • knowledge of proofreading and quality control communication, with extreme attention to detail
  • knowledge of AP Style, Chicago Manual of Style and Web Style Guide
  • Associates, Bachelors, degree preferred, majoring in English, related field, or advertising/marketing

Qualifications/Competencies:

  • excellent proofing/editing skills; quality control background
  • ability to accurately perform repetitive QC checks over multiple rounds of review
  • excellent computer competency and adept at learning new digital platforms
  • outstanding attention to detail and organization
  • previous experience working in a production environment with retail clients is ideal
  • customer-service oriented, attuned to client needs
  • collaborative, able to foster a team relationship with co-workers and all agency disciplines
  • critical thinking/using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions,
  • conclusions or approaches to opportunities
  • ability to prioritize/manage multiple projects and deliver ahead of deadlines
