Job Description

The Science & Medicine Department is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the healthcare content created by Digitas Health LifeBrands, Evolvr, Fusion, and other DH entities. The Department creates or vets copy that can pass the rigorous scrutiny of our clients’ medical-legal-regulatory committees, as well as the FDA, and is reviewed for accuracy in terms of medical and science accuracy as well as spelling, grammar, and adherence to brand style guides. Science and Medicine works with other capabilities to ensure that medical information is correctly conveyed within the creative execution.

A Director, Copy Editing is responsible for managing a segment of the Copy Editing Department. All copyeditors report to a Director, which includes but is not limited to the Gilead dedicated copy editor, AbbVie dedicated copy editor, and general and associate copyeditors for Mylan, Shire, and other companies.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage and support all copyeditors for DH, Evolvr, Fusion and other Publicis agencies, when needed

  • Assign workload and maintain Shared Services ticketing system (Jira)
  • Perform annual and semi-annual performance assessments
  • Mentor and guide copy editors
  • Set hours and days for copy editing that accounts for west coast/EU and other global clients, when necessary
  • Be readily available on IM, email, and phone
  • Educate the agencies on copy editing functions and the benefits of adhering to the copy editing process

Hold weekly team meetings for all copy editors

  • Discussion concerns, work allocation, process issues, style guide maintenance, and other relevant departmental objectives/issues

Provide workshops and orientation sessions for new PMs, writers, others to outline “best practices” for DH, Evolvr, Fusion, and other Publicis agencies

  • Provide best practices PowerPoint for teams
  • Communicate department goals to clients and teams, where appropriate

Prepare copy editing and proofreading test for copy editing applicants

Collaborate with Creative and Account Services to provide documents that exhibit consistency, grammar, style, completeness, and accuracy of content of scientific manuscripts and promotional materials for healthcare communications agency for all brands as outlined above

Perform fact-checking, copy editing, formatting, and proofreading of scientific manuscripts, including banners, memos, web sites for direct to consumer and healthcare professionals as well as other materials

Work collaboratively with copy writers, project managers, and others on all brands to develop or modify processes to meet business needs

Collaborate with Resource Management and Talent Acquisition to ensure staffing needs of the department are met

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in English, healthcare, communication, or science degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree required
  • ELS certification preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in copy editing
  • 5+ years in a prior leadership/managerial role within a copyediting department
  • Facility with pharmaceutical marketing formats
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical marketing
  • In-depth knowledge of AMA Manual of Style (10th ed.)
  • Must be capable of working both independently and in a team environment
  • Must know how to use Microsoft Word software. Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft PowerPoint desirable
