Job Description

The RBS planning team is made up of 9 Brand planners in total (1x Client Partner, 1x Business Director, 2x Planning Directors, 2x Planning Managers, 2x Senior Execs, 1x Planning Exec) an Insights director and access to two Group Strategy Directors. In addition, there is also Performance Planning team of a further 9 planners, so essentially there are plenty of people to learn from as well as room to grow.

The Account:

We are recruiting for a Planning Director on one of Zenith’s biggest accounts. This is a hugely varied role and offers a real opportunity for the right candidate to grow and learn within a friendly and inclusive environment. You will be responsible, with the support of a directly reporting Planning Manager and 2 x Execs, for the agency’s output on a key part of the account.

Following a rebrand a couple of years ago and the development of a new positioning for NatWest (‘We Are What We Do’) the clients have redesigned the way we plan campaigns. As their lead communications agency, Zenith have been able to help lead this transition with their Marketing team; the result of this is a refocus on their Brand Communications. This has set the scene for us to continually challenge the client and ‘category norms’ through our comms strategy and media planning. Our client has generous media budgets which enable us to think big and plan exciting campaigns. 

The Planning team (Brand and Performance) on the RBS account is the biggest in the agency making it a lively team whom work closely and collaboratively together.

What really makes this role interesting is that we work across every media channel and specialism so the campaigns that you would plan and manage will touch all parts of the agency, inclusive of all media channels and also specialist business units within the agency e.g. Insights, Partnerships, Data Science.

 

The Role:

  • To lead, inspire and manage the day to day planning on your part of the business
  • Be able to lead on a brief from start to finish, and in the process co-ordinating the Zenith response with other partner agencies
  • Work alongside the Strategy leads on the account when necessary to help build out key planning responses
  • Be the key point of contact for all of the day to day client stakeholders, but especially building gravitas with and acting as a trusted advisor to senior clients
  • Use your media knowledge, ability, intelligence and charisma to inspire and challenge the clients to sign up for more modern communication thinking for the brand
  • Ensure operational excellence across your team, driving for an immaculate level of client service
  • To build and maintain strong industry and key agency relations between the client and creative agencies. Your role will be to help support the Business Director in delivering fully integrated work to the clients so that they feel we are working as one agency
  • Be responsible for ensuring that client finances are tightly managed and that if clients have queries on invoices that they are managed in a timely manner
  • Understand the commercial priorities for the agency and hence be able to identify commercial opportunities, and with the necessary support, work to achieve incremental revenue streams that will benefit both the client and Zenith
  • Champion great work across the team, and beyond that the agency, consistently pushing for RBS work to be entered into Idea of the Quarter
  • Set clear progression plans for all direct reports, supporting their development to become better planners

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day to day planning output on the account
  • Manage a team of curious, ambitious planner and develop their planning and client service skills
  • Confidence in leading presentations and multi-agency meetings
  • Ability to manage upwards and downwards
  • Strong sense of initiative and an ability to self-start, taking a project from start to finish
  • Real team-player, with strong collaboration, both internally and with partner roster agencies
  • As a team we pride ourselves on our client service which is well acknowledged within the agency - so impeccable communication and organisation skills is a must

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is a strong communicator and team player who demonstrates passion and curiosity in their approach. As such, this is what we need from you:

  • 5-6 years’ experience in a media planning role
  • Experience planning and reporting across all channels
  • Solid experience and confidence in managing multiple live campaigns
  • Strong brand planning experience on clients with big budgets
  • Strong digital knowledge and experience an advantage
  • Strong presentation skills (writing and delivery)
  • Experience of managing a team of people
  • Experience of working in an integrated fashion with other agencies
