Reports to
Account Director - Owned Strategy

Job Purpose
To work closely with the Account Director to plan and execute effective owned media campaigns. Manage day-to-day campaign activity and core client relationships to deliver a full range of Performance Content services which exceed client objectives and expectations.

Owned strategy is one of three divisions that make up the Performance Content offering at Performics alongside UX and Content.

As an Owned Strategy Manager you will be responsible for managing a team of specialists delivering Performance Content campaigns for clients. You will be expected to execute and drive forward strategies by building excellent client relationships and leveraging the expertise of internal UX and Content teams.

You will be expected to have a broad understanding of all of the services offered within the Performance Content department and be confident in conversations with the internal UX team on subject areas like Technical SEO, Conversion Rate Optimisation, Marketplace Optimisation and App Marketing, and the internal Content team on subject areas like Content Creation, Content Production and Content Marketing.

Key Responsibilities 

Client Service

  • Ownership of day-to-day client relationships
  • Ensure high levels of service are delivered from all Performance Content team members working on accounts
  • Ensuring that all projects are delivered to a professional standard and in line with the agreed timings

Strategy

  • Supporting the development of the optimal owned media strategy and owned media activation for clients based on their budgets, target audience and KPIs
  • Ensure owned media planning approach considers multiple platforms including but not limited to web, social, apps, marketplaces
  • Undertaking analysis and audits using a combination of resources including but not limited to search, social, content, audience auditing tools
  • Supporting strategy and coordination team to deliver best-in-class Performance Content campaigns across multiple markets for a portfolio of Performics clients
  • Ensuring that there is integration between the Owned Strategy, UX and Content divisions

Planning

  • Supporting on response to client briefs
  • Regular briefings to UX and Content teams - to ensure delivery of agreed campaign activity on time and on budget

Performance

  • Supporting the development of client targets and ensuring Performance Content team achieves the KPIs set out at campaign planning stage
  • Support the production of performance projections

Team management

  • Line-management of all individuals within team including making sure timesheets are complete, signing off holiday, illness and conducting appraisals and objective setting
  • Coaching, training, progression and personal development of all team members
  • Running of regular status meetings with all members of UX and Content teams to ensure campaign activity is progressing as planned and that there is appropriate communication to the client from across the account team

Business Development

  • Supporting the Owned Strategy Director in developing and maintaining a future facing approach to Performance Content for international clients
  • Where required support on the creation of proposals and statements of work
  • Where required support new business process, including the creation of resources, attendance at pitches, tissue session

 

Relationships (Internal & External)

The following internal and external relationships will need to be built and continually improved:

Internal

  • Respected manager-led relationship with direct team members. Ability to both professionally nurture and critique team members.
  • Strong collaborative relationship with lead members of both the Content and UX team in order to ensure clients strategic goals are clearly translated into our specialist Performance Content offering.
  • Working relationships with Zenith planning teams as and when appropriate, in order to connect Performance Content strategy with broader marketing objectives. 
  • Working relationships with other Performics channel disciplines (PPC, Paid Social, Display, Affiliates) as and when appropriate, to capitalise on any integration opportunities.

External

  • Friendly, professional relationship with all clients.
  • Collaborative relationship with third-party agencies, even if they have conflicting services or agendas.
  • Positive relationships with suppliers and creation of new initiatives to allow us to continue to expand our service.

Qualifications

Education

Essential

English, Maths and Science GCSE’s grades A-C (or equivalent).

Highly Desirable

Post-graduate or undergraduate degree in relevant subject (or equivalent).

 

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of two years’ proven experience of working within a fast-paced agency environment working with enterprise-level clients.
  • Minimum of one years’ proven experience line-managing a team of SEO / Owned Media specialists, ideally within an SEO or owned media focused agency environment.
  • Confident, comfortable and professional when communicating with clients and third-parties.
  • Basic understanding of how to measure impact of owned media based strategies through analytics platforms and other external metrics.
  • Basic understanding of how to identify organic search opportunity, set business-relevant KPIs, project organic search performance and estimate expected return-on-investment.
  • Understanding of how to use Search Trends, Demographic and User-behaviour data to reinforce an owned-first strategy.
  • Ability to establish clear internal briefing and manage projects; distribute the workload appropriately; layout work in well-planned and organised manner; maintains two-way dialogue with others on work and results; brings out the best in people; is a clear and frequent communicator.
  • An entrepreneurial mind-set and work-ethic.

 Highly Desirable

  • Proven demonstrable experience of managing and mentoring direct reports within the digital space
  • Proven, demonstrable experience of developing owned-first strategies within a converged media focused team structure.
  • Understanding of how an owned-first content strategy should fit into a long-term vision for content.
  • Proven experience of identifying new ways of using industry leading technologies to further reinforce the services offered to clients.
  • Understanding of how websites and webservers work.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the workings of common web languages like HTML and CSS / PHP or ASP.net / JavaScript, Flash and HTML5.

Travel

Expected to independently travel to internal and external meetings and conferences primarily within the UK, although occasionally there may be the expectation to travel outside of the UK, within the network.
