Job Description

Provide clinical psychological research support and subject matter expertise necessary to aid in mission accomplishment.

Provide Support To:

United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, Aeromedical Research Department (USAFSAM/FH), and create research capabilities intended to respond to MAJCOM Command requests for information and knowledge regarding pre-training, baseline psychological testing predictors (cognitive and non-cognitive) predictive of qualification training among United States Air Force (USAF) community of remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) pilots.

Shall be responsible for the following:

  • Shall coordinate with USAFSAM professional staff to discuss how study results influence aeromedical policy, evaluation, treatment, and waiver process for RPA pilots within the USAF remote warrior community.
  • Shall interpret and prepare reports of scientific/statistical results in support of scientific literature publication in coordination with USAFSAM/FH Branch staff. The number of professional presentations, reports, and papers shall be determined based upon the relevance of research findings as they become available.
  • Shall design and develop, as necessary in coordination with the project statistician, all electronic products required for the project (Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations) which will provide feedback to AF MAJCOM and operational unit commanders. Assist with the acquisition of all scientific publications (journal article reprints) required for the project as coordinated by the project statistician and/or USAFSAM/FH professional staff.
  • Shall maintain training, research data, and corresponding documents in a manner consistent with IRB protocol and safeguards regarding human research. The contractor shall coordinate with USAFSAM/FH Branch staff with completing required research paperwork with the appropriate IRB.
  • Shall develop outline and content of manuscripts suitable for submission to a peer reviewed journal and/or national conference regarding research outcome results on the results of baseline, pre-training psychological testing with predicting and influencing pilot training outcomes and salient recommendations for improving the application of study results to the modernization of outreach efforts and training of flight medicine and mental health providers charged with caring for such airmen. The number of professional presentations, reports, and papers shall be determined based upon the relevance of research findings as they become available.
  • Shall work with project team members to maintain confidentiality of test data, contents of technical reports, and AF presentations deemed sensitive and not releasable to the general public. Present study results, in professional fashion, as required, to AF leadership at local, MACJOM, and HAF levels, as well as national conferences.
  • Shall expect to travel as needed to provide professional support, customer consultations, and research presentations at line leadership meetings and professional conferences. Maintain communications with project personnel that facilitate teamwork; adhere to strict confidentiality and classification requirements in all forms of communication.
  • Shall arrange and participate in research team meetings, as needed, to ensure effective communication between research team members as related to the achievement of project research goals. If there is an unexpected interruption in research capabilities and/or reduction in workload, the contractor shall support research endeavors in support of additional USAFSAM/FH related investigations, as required.

Qualifications

Education

  • Doctoral degree in clinical psychology and an active state licenses to practice clinical psychology for over the past 4 years.

Experience

  • Shall have a background and familiarization with USAF aircrew and special duty communities, as well as at least 5 years of experience working with, and providing mental health care to, USAF personnel and those serving in a leadership capacity. The contractor shall be thoroughly familiar with USAF culture, and organizational structure. This experience is necessary for evaluating how study outcomes and results can be applied to and help shape USAF aeromedical and medical clinic policies, as well as official USAF mental healthcare practices.
  • Shall be familiar with survey research and interactions with multiple AF agencies (medical as well as line leadership).
  • Shall have experience in behavioral science research working with active duty and Department of Defense (DoD) military line commanders and personnel, as well as experience writing professional technical reports.
  • Shall have experience presenting to Wing and Air Staff level leadership.
  • Shall have experience as a first or second author of national conference presentations and/or publications in peer reviewed behavioral science journals.
