Job Description

The licensed nurse provides high quality care to meet departmental nursing care standards through accurate nursing diagnosis and nursing processes. The nurse responsibly and cost effectively manages equipment, supplies, and ancillary services. The nurse establishes communication and maintains good working relationships with physicians and office personnel to facilitate quality patient care. 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Greet and escort patients to the exam room; make them feel welcome and comfortable.

  • Prepare and assist patients for exams: obtain urine specimens, check vital signs, document symptoms, complaints and medications.  Prepare for lab tests and procedures, etc.

  • Ensure the patient’s demographic information is correct and updated.

  • Assist the physicians, residents and fellows with exams and procedures.

  • Give injections and/or teach the patient to administer personal injections.

  • Administer medications by mouth when needed.

  • Assist patients with obtaining lab slips and/or referrals, scheduling procedures, prescriptions, etc.

  • Recognize urgent or emergency situations and act appropriately.

  • Accompany patients with an emergency to hospital in wheelchair or by stretcher; monitor continuously until under the care of the hospital nurse.  Document events in a patient's medical record.

  • Put charges and diagnoses on chart forms or obtain this from the physician.

  • Take lab specimens to the lab.

  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and others.

  • Perform NSTs and/or scan according to protocol.

  • Cooperate and interact with team members and co-workers.

  • Educate patients on health care concerns and problems, office and hospital procedures, birth control, prenatal, postpartum, gynecological care, medications, infertility, testing, surgery, etc.

  • Request and flow medical records.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality.

  • Practice infection control; dispose of contaminated needles, drugs and supplies properly; use good hand washing technique; disinfect patient areas after use, and clean exam rooms after patients are seen.

  • Respond to and refer to incoming telephone calls.  Instruct patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.

  • Overseas appointment bookings and ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations.  Maintain timely flow of patients.

  • Perform related work as required.

 

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of professional nursing clinic setting

  • Knowledge of; Professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care, Organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care, Medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care, Common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment

  • Skill in; Applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care, Identifying problems and recommending solutions, Preparing and maintain records, writing reports and responding to correspondence, Developing and maintaining department quality assurance, Establishing and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public

  • Ability to; Maintain quality control standards, React calmly and effectively in emergency situations, Interpret, adapt and apply guideline and procedures, Communicate clearly

Education/Certificate/License

  • Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing 

  • Current Texas Board of Nurse Examiners Registered Nurse license required

  • CPR certification

Physical Demands

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination; requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.  Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range; requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.

The starting hourly wage for this position is between $25 and $35. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, educational qualifications, and relevant work experience.
