Job Description

Safeway was recently awarded a contract with PSEG Long Island to build a new 2-mile underground electric transmission cable in the Rockaways section of Queens (Arverne to Far Rockaway).

We are looking for a Field Clerk to support this project from December 2021 through approximately June 2022. The position reports to the project's Field Superintendent and will work out of the temporary construction trailer near the jobsite (Arverne). Base work hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and occasional overtime may be required.

This person will interface between the construction office and the field to ensure good daily job planning, documentation, report submittals, NYC DOT permit tracking/renewal, job package preparation/tracking, printing, scanning, answering phones, and processing/responding to emails.

$20 - $23/hr depending on qualifications.

Job Duties:

  • Print and assemble job drawings, permits, and other documentation into job folders to issue to field crews in the morning
  • Answer phone calls/emails/txt from crews, Field Superintendents, and customers to expedite and resolve emergent issues
  • Collect, inventory, scan, and submit completed job paperwork (save in Sharepoint document storage system)
  • Track and check that all paperwork is being completed timely each day, and flag problems for the Superintendents to address with the crews
  • Track and renew NYDOT permits, in coordination with our customers, and track/resolve any associated violations
  • Assemble and compile weekly reports for weekly meeting with customer (notes, photos, etc all in one report document)
  • Collect, scan, and submit daily timesheets from the field after approvals
  • Other duties as needed to support the contract

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:

  • 18+ years old
  • No minimum education requirement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized, meticulous, and detail-oriented
  • Driven with exceptional work ethic (on time every day)
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure with regular distractions
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook (email), Word, and PowerPoint
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Suite, including Sharepoint document storage
  • Comfortable helping field employees with basic IT troubleshooting (resetting phone/tablet passwords, navigating cloud storage systems, etc)
  • Good mechanical aptitude (able to tinker with and repair small tools)
