Job Description

  • Operate such tools as picks, shovels, manually and electrically operated hand tools, air compressors, and air tools
  • Hand shovel dirt to excavate and backfill trenches
  • Clean joints for clamping
  • Wrap pipes and joints
  • Assist in scheduled leak surveys
  • Assist in the installation, repair, operation, and replacement of all gas distribution equipment
  • Assist in snow removal and manhole pumping
  • Perform elementary pipe fitting
  • Lay pipe, heat fuse joints, and install couplings
  • Install anodes and test stations
  • Prepare joints and install clamps
  • Assist in cathodic protection surveys
  • Install leak clamps
  • Operate and maintain excavating equipment
  • Read electronic gas maps
  • Apply proper ordinances and Company standards and rules
  • Perform driver maintenance and operate company vehicles



  • Certification in gas construction education or one year's gas technician experience
  • Demonstrated satisfactory aptitude and learning ability for the duties of gas distribution construction, operation, and maintenance
  • Sturdy physique and the stamina to work outdoors under extreme weather conditions
  • Capable of frequently lifting 75 lbs. minimum, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing
  • Temperament and personality that enable the employee to work as a member of a crew or team
  • Possess and keep a valid driver's license (mandatory)
  • Ability to attain CDL license during first nine (9) months of holding position
  • Reasonably available for overtime and emergency work assignments
  • Learned and practiced all safety rules that apply


  • Clean driving record (MVR) for the past three (3) years – Verifiable
  • DOT pre-employment drug screen
  • Comprehensive background check
  • DOT physical (physical, hearing test, respirator test)
