Job Description

SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Social Media Communications Specialist who will develop social media strategies and tactics as part of overall strategic communications for a government agency; This position will lead the creation of social media content; build social media programs to increase engagement; analyze social media metrics and data reporting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide input into strategic communications plans, with an emphasis on social media.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders in government, industry, and academia to develop targeted messages.
  • Create actionable objectives and timelines, and develop and track metrics.
  • Develop information, graphics, and publications to facilitate technical and programmatic goals, and to communicate and articulate abstract concepts to support government Science and Technology (S&T) programs.
  • Design, create, and transition web page content, graphics and communication materials, and video and animation content in support of agency tasks and programs.
  • Identify and utilize the latest IT resources and capabilities to facilitate information retrieval and dissemination.
  • Work with and ensure that all material developed and used in connection with the agency’s tasks and programs meets security and strategic communication guidelines and requirements.
  • Assist in the planning, facilitation, and execution of agency initiatives, and liaising with other organizations within the DOD S&T community, other Federal Agencies, Academia, Industry and internationally, to include senior military and government personnel.
  • Support special studies and technical advisory groups as required to provide recommendations on how to align agency programs with service needs, strategic concepts, and leadership priorities

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated professional experience in social media, public relations, or communications.
  • In-depth knowledge of social media platforms and their respective participants/audiences, and how each can be deployed in different scenarios.
  • Demonstrated ability to map out a social media strategy and drive the strategy to build an engaged online community.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate social media programs into overall communications and marketing objectives, activities, and plans.
  • Demonstrated success in measuring, reporting and analyzing program results using metrics tools.
  • Team player, with the confidence to effectively take the lead and guide other stakeholders when necessary.
  • Knowledge of content management and customer relationship management systems.
  • Strong understanding of communications, marketing, and social networking.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Strong copywriting/editing skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to think creatively and communicate ideas to others.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge and experience with DoD Science and Technology (S&T) policy, priorities, and programs.
