Building Automation Engineer

Job Description

The Building Engineer shall provide the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with administration, management, and monitoring services to support the Facility Control Systems at EPA-RTP. Knowledge and understanding of facility processes that occur in public facilities that monitor and control environmental conditions through automation and other IT system controls.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Document the risk assessment requirements for Facility IT systems in accordance with NIST and FISMA standards for facility systems.
  • Provide support to the Facility IT Systems configuration control board (CCB) by performing systems analysis, system integration, database planning, network management, component replacement planning, recommending improvements, keeping an inventory of hardware/software and planning for administration and management.
  • Provide support to any third-party vendors performing security risk assessments on Facility IT systems.
  • Install, configure, maintain, update, restore and resolve problems with facility computing hardware and software; Keeping computers fully operational.
  • Install, configure, maintain, update and proactively identify and resolve Ethernet network device problems keeping the Building Automation System (BAS) network fully operational.
  • Install, maintain, update and resolve problems with Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) devices, Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) device, and Power Distribution Unit (PDU) device hardware and software.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience
  • 3+ years of experience with building management systems (BMS)/building automation systems (BAS) in monitoring and controlling systems including Illumination (lighting) control; Electric power control; Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; Security and observation; Access control; Fire alarm system; Lifts, elevators etc.; Plumbing; Closed-circuit television (CCTV); Other engineering systems; Control Panels; and Alarm Monitor.
  • Experience in communications systems and networks including system analysis, design, engineering, development, implementation, or support with some involvement in complex projects.
  • Additional experience should include functional knowledge of the systems to be worked on and may include modeling and simulation, signal processing, message protocols, and communications security
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Experience in (UPS) Universal Power Supplies, (ATS) Automatic Transfer Switches, and (PDU) Power Distribution Units.
