Job Description

PowerPay, a fast-growing financial technology company, is seeking a Software Engineer to help roll out a Ruby on Rails based application for our organization. You will work with the existing development team, but the ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously and help drive the project to release. We are open to full or part-time (with option to convert to full-time).

It will be beneficial if you are able to contribute across the code base, including the React based front-end and have a strong understanding of html/css. Although not required, you will have the opportunity to dive into the AWS operations stack based on Docker containers deployed through ECS using CloudFormation scripts.

  • You will design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Ruby on Rails code. 

  • You will be involved in the design, development and implementation of our new platform.

  • You will integrate the database and file storage solutions.

  • You will work with and integrate user-facing elements developed by front-end developers with server side logic.

  • You will identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems.

  • You will help maintain high code quality, organization, automation and be a team player.

Qualifications

  • Must have 3+ years professional experience writing Ruby code or relevant experience in other web languages/frameworks, Web Development, Git, PostgreSQL.

  • Must have experience creating web applications and a deep understanding of web technologies.

  • Be able to provide examples of previous work.

  • Strong attention to detail is required.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a desire to work in a collaborative environment.

  • Proven ability to work with highly confidential data with a high-level of professionalism.

  • Excited to work in a startup environment; you have a track record of being adaptable to changing priorities in a fluid, high-growth environment.

  • You’re able to work independently, but you’re not afraid to ask for help when you need it.

  • A bachelor’s equivalent degree in Computer Science or related Engineering fields.

  • Highly organized, and able to manage multiple, and sometimes conflicting, priorities.

  • To be proficient in a wide range of tools, design patterns and best practices.

  • To lead the way in evaluating and introducing new, progressive technologies and practices for consideration/use.

  • To be able to work on entire features, from concept through to production deployment ensuring the feature is built and deployed in a timely fashion.

  • Good understanding of modern JS libraries like Ember CLI or React a huge plus.

  • Familiarity with concepts of MVC, Mocking, ORM, and RESTful. 

  • Ability to integrate multiple data sources and databases into one system.

  • Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application. 

  • Able to create, update, and maintain database schemas that represent and support business processes.

  • Able to implement automated testing platforms and unit tests, and familiarity with continuous integration.

  • Optional/Nice to have: JavaScript, React, HTML, CSS, AWS ECS / CloudFormation

  • Optional/Nice to have: Prior FinTech Experience.
