Job Description
Salary NHS Band 3: £25,760 - £27,476 per annum
Hours per Week: 37.5 full time & various part time
Contract: Permanent
At Portsmouth Hospitals Trust we are recruiting part-time Senior Radiographic Department Assistants (RDAs) to our X-Ray team.
As the successful candidate you will work X-Ray Departments at Queen Alexandra and Community Sites including Gosport War Memorial, Fareham Community and Petersfield Hospitals.
Shifts are on a rolling rota system, including 0700-1500, 0830-1630, 0900-1700 and 1200-2000, including regular weekend working.
As the Imaging Service runs 24/7, there is a commitment to work a proportion of the Bank Holidays over the year, including Christmas and New Year on a rotational basis.
You will be required to complete the Care Certificate within 12 weeks of starting in post if you do not already hold this qualification. You will be supported to achieve this as part of your induction process.
As an RDA you will:
- Assist radiographers in the x-ray rooms
- Assist patients through their examination, helping them to manoeuvre on the examination table, providing re-assurance and explanation of what is happening
- Assist with manual handling of patients including lateral transfer from bed/trolley to x-ray table
- Assist with moving patients around the department and hospital in beds, trolleys and wheelchairs
- Input data into the department computer systems
- Liaise with other wards and departments on the phone and face-to-face
- Maintain stock and perform cleaning tasks
- Care for patients who have suffered injuries or severe illness.
- Assist with setting up and maintaining aseptic fields for procedures
- Participate in the out of hours rota regularly, with occasional night shifts as required

Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ 3 (or equivalent) in care or modules relevant to the area. Alternately Evidence of equivalent experience.
- Literacy, Numeracy and keyboard skills
- ICT skills
- Desire to deliver compassionate hands on care in the hospital environment
Desirable
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)
- To be articulate in expressing ideas
- Good Standard of Education
- Knowledge of the NHS
Experience
- Previous experience within a hospital setting and/or the diagnostic imaging department is desirable.
Skills and Knowledge
- Effective patient/client care skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organisational skills
- Good attention to detail
Other
