Job Description

This vacancy is open to employees of Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust only.

NHS Band 4 Salary: £28,392 - £31,157 per annum

Hours per Week: full time 37.5 

Contract Type:  Permanent

Location Base:  St Mary's Hospital, Parkhurst Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5TG

 

Our Trust has a small Research Team that support research across the whole Acute Trust and Ambulance service. In previous years they have excelled in recruitment to high-quality studies, trials and had great achievements for a Trust of our size. Our diverse workforce, including doctors, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals (AHPs), continues to strengthen our research portfolio.

The specialties involved with these trials include: cancer, emergency care, ophthalmology, paramedic medicine, meds for children, respiratory, surgery, maternity, hepatology, diabetes, dermatology, dementias and neurodegeneration, health services and delivery research, infection, mental health, frailty, microbiology and primary care.

The Research Support Assistant will support the Research Governance Office Team with the day-to-day delivery of research related administrative tasks. The Role will work proactively and independently as a member of the R&D team to deliver core administration functions such as the processing of study amendments, archiving, oversight for research passports, EDGE maintenance and social media support. The role is with the Research Office team and will support the wider research team to assist with delegated activities during study set up and delivery. The Research Support Assistant will maintain quality by assisting with study monitoring, implementing corrective action plans and recording timelines and information on trackers and will organise, attend and minute departmental meetings.

Although this role is advertised as Full Time (37.5hrs p/w) for the candidate we could negotiate a slightly reduced part time role.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Education to A-level/NVQ 3 or equivalent level.

Desirable

  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of NHS experience.
  • Research experience within a health related organisation.
  • Recent Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in research training.

 

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within administration.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation and report writing skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage a diverse workload with cross functional teams
  • Responsive and flexible attitude and approach.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within an NHS setting.
  • Experience of working within an NHS R&D department.
  • Experience of working on research prioritisation with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Understanding of regulatory process in research

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent working knowledge of using Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent working knowledge of using the internet.
  • Knowledge of EDGE (Local Performance Management System)

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and current Trials’ Regulations (EU Directive Clinical Trials).
