Grade: Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist 4PA’s (Locum, 12 month fixed term contract)

Reports to: Clinical Director, Clinical Delivery Directorate, Clinical Support Services Care Group

Job Summary

A locum consultant post has arisen within the department of Clinical Neurophysiology at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS trust. This is a 12-month locum consultant position of 4 PAs following reduction of hours.

This position provides an excellent opportunity for a dynamic individual with the appropriate skills to join an established workforce providing a wide range of clinical neurophysiology services in a busy district general hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post is a general clinical neurophysiology post, providing cover following reduction in hours. It offers an opportunity for either a recently trained or established consultant to gain expertise within our busy department. The successful applicant will be expected to deliver outpatient and in-patient nerve conduction studies (NCS) and EMG services, occasional urgent EEG reporting and contribute to teaching and supervision of our senior healthcare scientist team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provision of regular NCS / EMG out-patient clinics
  • Provision of NCS / EMG services to in-patients, as required
  • Supervision of trainees and other members of the multi-professional team
  • Participation in education programmes for trainees, medical students, and other specialist staff.
  • Participation in the clinical governance activities of the department.
  • Regular attendance at the monthly departmental business and CPD meeting
  • Being an active member of the Clinical Neurophysiology team, encouraging multi-professional working
  • Contribution to the overall management of the Clinical Neurophysiology service.

 

Job Plan.

4 PA’s delivered as 3 x NCS / EMG clinic (DCC) and 1 x Patient related Admin (DCC) & SPA.

To be delivered within a standard Monday to Friday 10 Session framework with flexibility on what days/sessions will be utilised.

 

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and Specialist Registration or be eligible for Specialist Registration within six months of interview.
  • MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Applicants that are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certification of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
  • Applicants that are not UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT

Clinical Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrate experience in providing a wide range of basic and advanced clinical neurophysiology services to adult and paediatric in- and out- patients

Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate appropriate level of clinical knowledge
  • Knowledge and use of evidence-based practice
  • IT skills
  • Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
  • Effective, confident presentation ability

Other

  • Ability to organise oneself and prioritise clinical need

  • Understanding of NHS Clinical Governance and resource constraints
