Job Description
This vacancy is open to employees of Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust only.
Band 7: £47,810 - £54,710
Hours: 37.5 per week
Location: Base location either St Mary's Hospital, Parkhurst Road, Newport, Isle of Wight,PO30 5TG, or Building 4000, Lakeside, North Harbour, Cosham, Portsmouth, PO6 3EN. Across site travel may be required, the frequency will be agreed locally
The Senior Automation Developer will play a key role in delivering intelligent automation solutions across both Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and Isle of Wight NHS Trust.
You will design, develop, test, and support Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Power Platform applications, applying your technical expertise to streamline business processes, enhance digital capabilities, and support the Trusts’ wider digital transformation strategies.
Working within a skilled and collaborative team, you will lead on complex automation projects, ensuring that all solutions are secure, maintainable, and deliver measurable benefits to the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy RPA solutions using Blue Prism in accordance with Trust standards and best practice.
- Support the development and integration of Microsoft Power Platform applications, including Power Automate and Power Apps.
- Collaborate with business analysts and service leads to translate operational requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Create and maintain reusable automation components, documentation, and governance artefacts.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior automation developers.
- Ensure compliance with Information Governance, data protection, and cybersecurity standards.
- Participate in change management, release processes, and quality assurance reviews.
- Proactively identify opportunities for process automation and continuous improvement.
- Support the ongoing maintenance and optimisation of existing automations.
- Contribute to technical innovation, evaluation of emerging technologies, and best practice sharing across the team.

Qualifications
Essential
- Degree level education/qualification or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Significant experience in RPA development, specifically with Blue Prism.
- Strong understanding of automation lifecycle management, exception handling, and process design.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 tools, including Power Automate and Power Apps.
- Experience of system integration using APIs, web services, and databases (SQL).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to agreed timescales.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable:
- Blue Prism certification (Developer / Professional Developer).
- Experience of working within the NHS or other public sector environments.
- Knowledge of Agile or hybrid delivery methodologies.
- Experience with cloud environments or virtual workforce management (e.g., Blue Prism Cloud).
- Familiarity with other RPA platforms (UiPath, Automation Anywhere, etc.).
