Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for you to work as a Therapy Technician within the Medical Therapy team at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.

We are a large, dynamic and integrated team of qualified Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, Therapy Associate Practitioners and Therapy Technicians, led by a Team Lead Physiotherapist alongside a Specialist Occupational Therapist.

We work in a fast paced and varied department across a diverse caseload on Medically optimised and Acute medical wards (Respiratory, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, General Medicine). In this full-time role you support Registered staff and Therapy Assistant Practitioners to provide early assessment and discharge planning and to implement treatment plans with supervision available from qualified therapists.

Alongside the clinical base we will provide you with opportunities to be involved in service development and participate in the in-service training rota within the service with an aim of delivering the highest quality of therapy service to our patients with a home first approach. You will have a professional but warm approach and we will provide support and training to enable you to carry out:

  • Mobility practice and progression
  • Be confident with the use of walking aids and equipment
  • Implementing exercise programme
  • To support qualified staff across the Acute medical and Medically optimised wards ensuring early assessment and discharge planning within scope of Band 3 competence.
  • Complete administrative tasks

Qualifications

Essential

  • Maths & English GSCEs (grades 9-4 or A*-C) OR Functional skills level 2 in English & Maths 
  • Care Certificate  – Or essential to be completed within 3 months of joining the Trust

Desirable

  • Level 3 Apprenticeship or equivalent

Experience

Desirable

  • Previous healthcare experience, particularly within therapy
  • Experience of liaising with other agencies

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to use a computer keyboard.
  • Ability to travel between sites and community settings.
  • Knowledge of the underpinning philosophy of rehabilitation. 
  • An awareness of ones personal and professional limitations. 
  • Commitment to personal development.
  • Understand the importance of patient confidentiality
