An exciting opportunity to join our Pharmacy senior team has become available, for an individual seeking a challenging and rewarding role within a dynamic, supportive and professional team. The Pharmacy department is passionate about delivering excellent care to our patients and community. This role will play a vital part in helping us to achieve our Strategic Plan, Vision and Mission, through coaching and mentoring your team to deliver on set objectives. This role will lead on our clinical services across the Trust and will be responsible for not only ensuring clinical, operational, safety and legislative compliance but also ensuring the delivery of corporate strategy and non-pay CIPs through management of the pharmacist team leads.
Job Summary:
- Directing the development of the clinical pharmacy service for Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust through management of 5 x Pharmacist Team Leaders.
- Leading the development of clinical pharmacy training within Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.
- Contributing to the delivery of medicines optimisation within the Trust, to maximize the beneficial clinical outcomes for patients from medicines, with an emphasis on safety, governance, professional collaboration and patient engagement.
- To develop, train, motivate and encourage staff working within patient services and the department as a whole.
- Budgets – Contributes to control of medicines budget of £82m and Pharmacy staff and non-staff budgets.
Directly manages: 5 band 8b Pharmacist Team Leaders across the Clinical Specialities, Team Lead for Commissioning and Formulary and Homecare Lead Pharmacist. Indirectly manages specialist 8a pharmacists and supervises band 7 and band 6 pharmacists on rotation.
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Pharmacist with General Pharmaceutical Council
- Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma/MSc or equivalent experience
Desirable
- Postgraduate Management Qualification or equivalent experience
Experience
Essential
- 8 years in the NHS with a wide range of clinical and management experience
- Quality systems and audit
- Operational planning and development of services
- Health and Safety and maintenance of safe systems or work
Desirable
- Marketing of service for pharmacy customers and stakeholders

- Evaluation of medical literature concerning medicines
- Analysis of potential clinical pharmacy problems from medicines charts and patient information
