Job Description

We are looking for a positive, resilient, compassionate and enthusiastic healthcare support worker. You should have a desire for learning and developing your skills and knowledge, we will support you to develop skills such as wound care and plastering.

You will work closely with our Registered nurses and  Emergency Nurse Practitioners to ensure that patients pathway through both the Emergency Care Centre and Urgent Treatment Centre is safe, efficient and within a timely manner.

You must have previous care expierence, the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines, have good written and verbal communication skills, and enjoy working in constant and rapidly changing environments.

It is essential that you are able to work across both sites of PHU and Gosport War Memorial Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals, you will be assisting the team with the provision of clinical care for a defined group of patients. In addition, you will take all possible steps to safeguard the welfare, safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff.

Typical day-to day duties include:

  • Provide care for patients, helping to maintain their personal hygiene, which will sometimes include working with bodily fluids
  • Provide physical comfort for patients, whilst ensuring their privacy and dignity is always maintained
  • Assisting with meal times
  • Assist with cleaning tasks
  • Record information to patient administration system and assist team with other administrative duties

Qualifications

Essential

  • English and Maths qualification GCSE/Functional Skills at Level 1 or equivalent

Desirable

  • Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care/Clinical Health or equivalent relevant experience
  • Level 2 English and Maths

Experience

Essential

  • Desire to deliver compassionate hands-on care in the hospital environment
  • Can demonstrate understanding of and share the Trust values of Working Together for Patients, with Compassion, as One Team, Always Improving

Desirable

  • Experience of working with people in a care home or within a hospital setting

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Compassionate towards patient care and demonstrate Trust values
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to meet the minimum skill set within first twelve months of appointment with support and development where required (list of skills as defined in generic competency framework)

Desirable

  • IT skills
  • European Computer Driving License (ECDL)
