Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic motivated senior research nurse, to lead a cohort of research teams to drive innovation, enhance patient care and maximise opportunities for our patients and staff to participate in high quality research. 

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in managing & leading teams within an NHS setting with ideally a background in clinical research nursing. You will join an enthusiastic, driven, and caring senior research nursing team, who lead and support established research teams of approximately 100 Research Nurses, AHPs, Midwives, Clinical Trials Assistants, Photographers and AI technicians, working together across sites and existing studies.  Our research team brings exciting research opportunities to PHU, for the benefit of our patients and for the future of healthcare.

Our research delivery teams work flexibly across numerous clinical specialities facilitating the safe delivery of a wide range of high quality NIHR or Commercially funded complex interventional studies investigating new treatments, devices, and interventions as well as observational studies. Robust clinical research knowledge of good clinical practice an awareness of the regulatory research landscape, and excellent communication skills are pivotal to facilitate successful research delivery across the Trust.

This is a dynamic role that will offer the right candidate a unique opportunity to continue their leadership and management journey.  You will be involved in all aspects of the research process from study design to delivery and study close out, collaboratively working with multidisciplinary teams to support the implementation of studies to translate scientific discoveries into improved patient outcomes.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Current RN registration with NMC
  • Masters degree, or equivalent experience and professional knowledge
  • Professional clinical knowledge acquired through significant post registration experience , with experience at a level requiring supervision of other qualified nurses
  • Evidence of formal leadership training
  • Training in ICH-GCP clinical trial standards and the detailed trial-specific rules it provides for administration and record keeping
  • Management Training
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent experience and knowledge

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Significant clinical experience in managing & leading teams within an NHS setting
  • Background in clinical research nursing, involvement in research/ clinical publications
  • Knowledge of, and experience of applying, the Research Governance Framework for Health and Social Care, and of clinical trial regulatory and ethics processes; knowledge of Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations and Good Clinical Practice; knowledge of legislation regarding safety reporting and Pharmacovigilance
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of advanced highly specialised theoretical and practical clinical and research skills beyond the normal scope of nursing practice
  • Demonstrates an ability to develop and improve own competence in structured way
  • Able to use advanced software to collect data, create reports and manage data and use a range of IT programmes including web applications and MS Office applications
