This is a new post created to meet the increasing demands of the Head & Neck cancer service.

We are looking for a Consultant Surgeon with drive and vision to enhance our quality patient centred service.  The post is based at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, with the possibility of providing a visiting role to St Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight.

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has a vision to be recognised as a world-class hospital, leading the field through innovative healthcare solutions, focusing on the best outcomes for our patients, delivered in a safe, caring, and inspiring environment.

We aim to recruit an outstanding and forward-thinking Maxillofacial Head & Neck Surgeon, who will undertake inpatient surgery as a part of the Head & Neck MDT, and a spectrum of maxillofacial care, and contribute to the 1:7 Maxillofacial general on-call rota.  The postholder will also provide outpatient clinics and surgical sessions under local anaesthetic in support of the wide range of maxillofacial care provided within the department.  There is also the requirement to give on-site support and input as needed in relation to other related PHU specialties, and provide training and support for our junior staff.

Full GMC registration is required (GDC optional), with a licence to practice.

The Department

Maxillofacial Surgery is based within the Head and Neck Care Group, which comprises the Departments of: ENT and Audio-Vestibular Medicine, Audiology, Maxillo-Facial Surgery, and Ophthalmology. The MFU has a team of specialists providing orthodontics, oral surgery and restorative dentistry as part of dental and surgical MDT care. We have a fully equipped MFU laboratory with highly skilled specialist technicians providing the support for rehabilitation post surgery and complex care.

Queen Alexandra Hospital is a large modern acute medical facility with a state of the art ITU, large theatre complex and an on-site Radiotherapy and Oncology centre.  The ENT Department provides a full range of emergency and elective ENT services. These include: Specialist Otology (including cochlear implantation, bone anchored hearing aids and middle ear prostheses), Specialist Rhinology, Paediatric ENT, Head and Neck Surgery and Skull Base Surgery. The Head and Neck Unit is housed on Ward E10.  This is a dedicated unit for all Head & Neck inpatients with an ambulatory service for emergency care.
