Job Description

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust (PHU) is recruiting for a Band 4 to 5 developmental post. This is opportunity for someone looking to gain exposure to progress to Band 5 on completion of required experience, competencies and skills. Opportunities will be given to gain the experience and competencies required to progress within a 12 month time frame. You will supported by a mentor every step of the way.
This progressive role could be just want you need to develop your confidence and skills before stepping into that senior role

This is a busy, varied role, based within a large diverse team providing medicines to over 1000 inpatients, clinics and outpatients every day.  You will have excellent opportunities to learn and fully utilise your strong organisation skills and great communication ability daily, where you will be making a direct impact to the rest of the Pharmacy team and patients too. If you are enthusiastic and reliable you will do just great here at PHU. 
Your day will be occupied with various tasks – primarily the role will be participating in a rota that covers all aspects of PHU. This role will be ideal for someone wishing to expand their knowledge and gain experience all the aspects of Pharmacy that Portsmouth has to offer.

Qualifications

 

  • NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services with recognized underpinning knowledge qualification or General Pharmaceutical Council recognized equivalent e.g. BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician status

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Able to prioritise and work safely and effectively under pressure.
  • Able to work in a team.
  • Able to use initiative and problem solving skills whilst knowing when to refer.
  • Able to advance own skills and knowledge.
  • Evidence of maintaining own CPD records

Desirable

  • Counselling skills.
  • Able to deliver basic training
  • Able to use a range of IT packages e.g. Microsoft Word, Outlook and Internet Explorer.

Experience

Essential

  • Documented evidence of dispensing competence.
  • Experience of stock control
  • Experience of working to formal documented procedures.
  • Experience of Patient/Customer Service contact and involvement

Desirable

  • Having or working towards an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification
  • Recent experience of hospital pharmacy.
  • Experience of a wide variety of prescription specialities
  • Experience of providing training for less experienced colleagues.
  • Experience of quality monitoring systems
  • Experience of ward-based work
  • Experience of providing monitored dosage systems and compliance aids.
