Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Cleaner to join our team at Hedon Dental Practice in Hull.

As a Cleaner, you’ll play an important role in maintaining a clean, hygienic and welcoming environment across the practice. Your attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness will help ensure a safe and pleasant environment for our patients and team.

  • Part time: 10 hours per week
  • Shift pattern: Monday – Thursday: 5:45pm – 7:45pm & Friday: 5:15pm – 7:15pm
  • Pay: £12.71 per hour

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean all designated areas of the dental practice to a consistently high standard.
  • Vacuum, sweep and mop floors as appropriate.
  • Clean surfaces, doors, handles, skirting boards and other non-clinical areas.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of reception, waiting areas, staff areas, offices and other non-clinical spaces.
  • Clean toilets and replenish cleaning and hygiene supplies when required.
  • Clean staff kitchen and break areas.
  • Empty general waste bins only in line with practice procedures.
  • Ensure all areas are left clean, tidy and presentable.
  • Carry out additional cleaning when required, including following spills or unexpected mess.
  • Follow the practice’s colour-coded cleaning system at all times, using the correct equipment for each designated area to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Follow all relevant infection prevention and control procedures, using appropriate cleaning products and PPE as instructed.
  • Follow manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning products, including required contact/dwell times, and never mix cleaning chemicals.
  • Safely use and store cleaning products and equipment in line with COSHH and health and safety requirements.
  • Use wet-floor warning signs when required and report any hazards, damage or faulty equipment to the Practice Manager.
  • Maintain patient and staff confidentiality at all times.
  • Complete cleaning checklists or records where required.
  • Monitor cleaning supplies and notify the Practice Manager when stock needs replenishing.
  • Attend relevant training as required.
  • Act as a key holder, ensuring the practice is securely opened and locked at the appropriate times.
  • Undertake any other reasonable cleaning duties requested by the Practice Manager.

Please note: This role involves general cleaning only. You will not be required to handle clinical waste, sharps bins or clinical waste containers, or handle dental instruments or other clinical equipment.

  • Has previous cleaning experience and takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Is reliable, punctual and trustworthy, with good attention to detail.
  • Can work independently and manage their time effectively.
  • Is comfortable following cleaning schedules, procedures and instructions.
  • Understands the importance of hygiene, health and safety and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Has a professional, polite and respectful approach when working around patients and colleagues.
