Job Description

Points is looking for a Tax Manager to join our Finance team for a permanent position in our downtown Toronto office.

This is a newly created role within our organization, and an exciting opportunity to get your hands on a lot of different types of tax. You’ll see everything from Canadian and International tax compliance to Transfer Pricing.  We want someone that is technical and hands on, and wants to grow with Points! 

Reporting to the VP, Tax & Treasury, you will join a team where you will: 

  • Prepare quarterly/annual consolidated income tax provisions, return to provision adjustments,  financial statement disclosures and memorandums
  • Analyze and prepare tax account balances/reconciliations and prepare all tax journal entries
  • Prepare Canadian income tax returns, foreign reporting forms, global indirect tax returns and related tax remittances
  • Assist with international income and excise tax compliance procedures and coordinate with external consultants as needed to ensure deadlines are met
  • Assist with government tax audits and routine desk reviews by gathering and preparing all necessary documentation and correspondence
  • Demonstrate an understanding of transfer pricing concepts and current practice by assisting with annual documentation requirements
  • Review of commercial contracts with new partners to determine tax implications in applicable jurisdictions
  • Prepare Audit Committee/Board slides as it relates to tax operations and initiatives
  • Assist with researching complex tax issues and preparing technical documentation to support the company’s tax positions, projects and other duties, as assigned
  • Ensure compliance with the Company's internal control framework including key Sarbanes-Oxley controls and periodically update control narratives
  • Keep current on relevant federal, provincial and foreign statutory/regulatory and/or technology changes to identify and implement necessary changes and best practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation or related field preferred; MTax program is a plus
  • Designated CPA or equivalent required
  • Completion or enrollment in CPA In-depth tax program is an asset
  • 2-5+ years of progressive tax experience in a public accounting firm or tax department of a multinational company.  Relevant industry experience in technology and e-commerce companies is a plus.
  • Canadian tax experience: Experience with HST filings and dealing with the CRA
  • Experience conducting tax research, and you have the ability to evaluate, analyze and problem solve a variety of tasks to ensure timely and accurate completion
  • Knowledge of IFRS, Canadian Income Tax Act and technical aspects of tax compliance, legislation and regulations
  • Self-motivated, goal oriented individual with strong organizational skills who can prioritize work in order to meet tight and competing deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Strong proficiency with MS Word, Excel (Pivot Tables and V-Lookups) and Taxprep software
