Based in our Lichfield office and working directly with the content teams you will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people, from artists and product owners to other game developers and testers.

As a Games Mathematician the main purpose of this role is to create maths models for gambling games, predominantly retail slots for a variety of markets both UK and international. This involves:

• Brainstorming new game ideas and evaluating feasibility.
• Creating spreadsheets and bespoke tools to model the maths for these games.
• Working with the developers to ensure that the maths models are correctly implemented, and debugging any errors.
• Creatively balancing the games to provide good gameplay experiences, to create profitable and successful slots, and to analyse statistically, categorise and verify the maths.
• Playing and researching games, reporting on current trends.
• Laising with maths providers within internal companies.
• Representing the mathematical creation and output for Psiclone games to various external companies and internal Playtech sister companies.
• Researching successful slot games, features and balances.
• Reviewing existing models and adapting these for specific markets.
• Producing documentation detailing the implementation and theory of the models.
• Drawing conclusions from historical statistical analysis on slot statistics, profits, rankings and player behaviour.

You will be playing a major role within a close team, so should not be afraid of responsibility, as well as being flexible with projects and time keeping. You will affect all stages of a game’s production, so a critical eye and dedication will ensure a quality product. Communicating both technical details and descriptive design ideas in a clear way is essential. You will be cooperating with remote teams and assisting developers to make sure that the games are as we envision.

Experience & Qualifications: 

Essential skills:

• Proficiency in Excel formulae and knowledge of Excel VBA
• Bachelor’s Degree in Maths, Computer Science, or other maths-related subjects
• Good knowledge of probability and statistical modelling
• Ability to produce and maintain technical documents
• Ability to clearly communicate concepts and methods
• Critical thinking and attention to detail

Desirable skills:

• Experience with a programming language (C++/C#/Java…) desirable but not required
• Familiarity with Monte Carlo methods and Markov Chains
• Experience in statistical data analysis
• An interest in gambling (slots or table games) or prior experience in the gambling industry
