We’re now looking for a Frontend/UI Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role you’ll use your extensive knowledge of JavaScript, React, HTML, and CSS to contribute to and improve the Pinto Web clients, a suite of Web-based data platforms and tools used to create, manage, and make sense of nuanced food data and analytics. You’ll also work with our business and product teams to develop new features, landing pages, internal tools, and similar to best support our customers.

Ideal candidates will be comfortable leading initiatives from ideation to planning, prototyping, execution, shipping, and iteration. We use a variety of tools, technologies, and languages to build software including ES6 JavaScript/TypeScript, React/React Native, Redux, Webpack, Node.JS, GraphQL and MongoDB.

Job Description

  • You’ll use your skills to help solve real-world problems, while learning about the food, consumer products, and personalized nutrition ecosystem

  • You’ll work on the front-end of the Pinto Web stack using tools like React, GraphQL, Sass, and similar

  • You’ll build interfaces and tools to display, process, and update data on the Pinto platform

  • You’ll work on creating Web-based tools around our core data platform, which processes large, complex data sets from a variety of sources 

  • You’ll envision and create tools that contribute to and enhance our end-to-end data pipeline

  • You’ll envision and contribute to internal data and insights tools that support our operations, research and business teams.

  • You’ll work with our Research, Nutrition & Data Analyst teams to gain a deep knowledge of underlying use cases in food data, consumer products, and nutrition

  • You’ll work with our Business team to implement Web-based landing pages, internal tools, and other business collateral 

  • You'll brainstorm with Product Managers and Designers to conceptualize new features

  • You’ll contribute to the ongoing evolution of the Pinto Web stack


  • Deep understanding of building responsive Web apps from the ground up

  • 3-5+ years of client-side JavaScript experience

  • 2+ years of experience with React

  • Strong knowledge of CSS

  • Passion for building user interfaces that enable users to solve their problems

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment

  • Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and empathy

  • Self-awareness and a desire to continually learn and improve

  • Ability to multitask and be flexible in your work

Bonus points for

  • An open GitHub profile to showcase some of your work (or code samples)

  • Understanding of how to optimize UI/JS code for performance

  • Experience with GraphQL/Apollo

  • Experience with Node.js, Apollo/GraphQL, Webpack, MongoDB

  • Experience working with React Native

  • Experience with or strong interest in data visualization
