Job Summary:

The Electrical Component Validation Engineer is involved from the beginning of the development life cycle to build test cases that assure electronic hardware design issues are surfaced early in the design process. The role has responsibility for validation of electronic hardware used in battery systems for applications such as HEV, PHEV, and EV. The Validation Engineer leads, creates and executes the DVP&Rs of electronic hardware and provides support in the debugging of embedded systems. This individual works cross functionally with engineers and technicians both within our company and with outside test labs. He/she also actively and constructively participates on improvement teams and in problem solving.

 Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead the design validation planning and execution efforts of new and legacy battery management products

• Create, manage, and execute test plans to take a product from prototype through to production using internal resources as well as contracted labs

• Perform hands on testing in environmental, EMC, and application interface areas

• Create, document, and maintain testing procedures and test reports

• Aligns test requirements with various industry and international standards as well as customer requirements

• Assist with the development and documentation of the compliance matrix

• Work with customers and engineering to achieve signature approvals of test plans

• Create, document, and maintain validation testing procedures and test reports

• Manage and perform testing at outside labs: quotations, scheduling tests, witness of tests and test reports

• Provide direction and technical support to Engineering Technicians performing tests

 Additional Support Responsibilities

• Conduct regular training classes for engineering teams on test methods

• Work with Program Managers to enforce Change Management discipline after Design Freeze to ensure BMS hardware reflects and complies with the appropriate revision levels of the product specifications  

• Drive fast and thorough problem resolution through use of team-oriented problem solving tools, such as 8D, Ishikawa, 5-Why, Is-IsNot techniques, and others

• Participate in third party agency audits for Engineering labs


Qualifications

• B.S. in one of the following: Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering

• Minimum 3 years of relevant industry experience

 Key Competencies:

• Experience testing electronic modules for use in automotive or heavy duty environments

• Proficient in the application and use of electrical and electronic lab test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Power Analyzers, Differential Voltage probes, Current Transformers, meters, thermocouples, etc.

• Background with building manual and automated test fixtures

• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve test issues

• Hands on experience performing product compliance testing

• Familiarity with Controller Area Network (CAN) communication interface and use of CANoe/CANalyzer

• Excellent communication and presentation skills; Ability to organize and summarize data and plans in presentable formats: Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio, other

• A high level of initiative and a proactive nature.

• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time
