Job Description

Responsible for fulfilling the role of quality expert for prototype manufacturing; this is a hands-on position.  Ensure the quality of the parts produced meet all customer expectations; quickly and effectively take necessary actions when non-conformances are found.  Maintain the most recent interpretations of the quality system requirements and therefore ensure that documented practices meet the true interpretation of the quality management system standards.

This position requires several years of Battery Quality Program experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Collaborate with customers’ quality and engineering personnel to determine critical part features and review manufacturability of design.  Make recommendations to modify customer part specifications and tolerances as necessary to support cost effective production.

·         Provide engineering support to operations ensuring consistent application of quality techniques

·         Resolve quality issues of capability, tolerancing, and materials related issues.

·         Resolve quality issues by identifying problems, examining solution options, implementing action plans, and providing resources.

·         Effectively communicate and reinforce commitment to quality improvement efforts through quality resolution meetings

·         Develop and submit PSW (Part Submission Warrant) documents for new product launches to meet customer requirements.

·         Determine when process stability and capability studies should be performed on existing processes.  Review and analyze results.  Recommend changes to processes based upon findings and perform follow up to verify effectiveness.

·         Participate in the Advanced Product Quality Planning activities to determine appropriate use of existing and new measurement systems during new tool or process design and startup. 

·         Coordinate pre-launch production trial run process monitoring. As well as communication with, and transfer of knowledge to, the Production Manufacturing/Quality Team.

·         Participate in the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

·         Maintain Control Plans and FMEA's throughout the life of the part.

·         Facilitate and promote use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action.

·         Implement and maintain incoming and receiving inspection: To include part inspection and audits along with supplier corrective action resolution. Chart and document supplier performance Receiving inspection of incoming deliveries to verify parts meet purchase order requirements and documented specifications

·         Detailed inspection of various parameters including quantity, manufacturer’s part number, physical dimensions, coloring, markings, and possible damage

·         Marking, labeling, and sorting parts for accurate placement in stocking areas

·         Physically manages stock on the floor during sorting and properly labels and quarantines suspect materials

·         Assembly of sub-assemblies to documented specifications

·         Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

·         Perform duties in accordance with quality system requirements as the voice of customers.

·         Coordinate with Sales, Purchasing, Engineering, Production, and Toolroom to resolve customer complaints and concerns.

·         Lead PPM improvement plan for strategic customers and suppliers.

  • Apply appropriate use of statistical techniques.
  • Determine and apply appropriate Measurement System Analysis tools.

Systems Management

  • Recommend and implement enhancements to the quality system that result in improved corporate quality performance, increased customer satisfaction, and/or simplification of processes to reduce costs.
  • Ensure readiness for all internal and external quality audits. 
  • Develop the annual audit plan, train internal audit team members, perform necessary duties as Lead Internal Auditor and provide ongoing communication/reporting of results.
  • Coordinate and direct external 3rd party registration/surveillance audits
  • Oversee the controlled document system, to include a final review of all changes to procedures, work instructions, forms, master lists and other associated documents to ensure quality certification requirements are met. 
  • Participate in quality reporting and management review process
  • Participate in developing, then regularly monitor, to ensure repetitive quality requirements are met.
  • Manage quality metrics and present findings and recommendations to the management review team.

Interview and select quality/process consultants as necessary to assist in developing and executing action plans for continuous process improvements.

 

POSITION CHALLENGES:

·         Maintaining the integrity of the certified quality system requirements with lean, cost effective strategies that meet the organization’s needs.

·         Advocating as the "voice of the customer" demanding the highest quality expectations from the organization.

·         Executing the duties of the position such that the focus is largely proactive versus reactive.

Minimum Technical Qualifications:   

·         Bachelor’s degree in engineering, prefer Manufacturing or Mechanical

·         Experience managing a certified quality management system (e.g. TS 16949, ISO).

·         Exceptional mechanical aptitude (i.e. intuitive understanding of mechanical processes)

·         Proven track record of driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment.

·         Experience in the automotive industry.

·         Previous work experience in an organization that supplied large OEM’s.

·         Customer quality assurance experience.

·         Previous audit experience.

 

Travel:  Overnight travel based on customer/supplier need (less than 20%)

 

Computer Skills:  In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office required.  Experience with other quality software applications beneficial. (e.g. statistical analysis)
