Job Description

The Advanced Product & Systems Engineer is responsible for guiding the specification, development, and architecture of core battery systems, components, and new customer applications. The individual will be responsible for defining and documenting overall mechanical architecture, mechanical systems, and components, and overseeing validation of those components and systems. This individual will work closely with our prototype and production engineering teams, as well key suppliers and the validation/testing teams. The Advanced Product & Systems Engineer will be the interface between prospective customers and the engineering team, translating customer needs and requirements into product specifications.

Responsibilities and Duties

Develops detailed product requirements based on regulations, customer requirements, and internal requirements.

Conducts sizing & preliminary design proposals for customers to enable quick response to RFQ/RFIs.

Provides engineering inputs to support customer RFQ/RFP responses and quotes

Designs and defines product system architecture for the product development teams to take into production designs.  This includes system configuration, cell type, form factor, chemistry, control strategy, thermal strategy, system design, mechanical strategy, materials, etc.

Establishes system boundary diagrams, high level electrical architecture schematics, and process flow diagrams.

Acts as Thermal architect, providing high level thermal strategy, conceptual design, approximate sizing, manufacturing method, guiding CAE/CFD analysis, and conducting thermal design reviews

Establishes DFMEAs, HARA, and guides the team through population and execution of DMFEA, DVP&R, and DRBTRs.

Guides selection of components (materials, structures, fuses, housings, etc.) and ensures products meet internal and customer requirements.

Key contributor in evaluation of prospective suppliers, including supplier information, specifications, and validation data.

Develops mechanical system DVP&Rs for integration into or support of overall ABS system DVP&Rs.

Participates in troubleshooting any issues with battery systems.

Expands professional and technical knowledge by attending educational seminars and conferences, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.

Contributes to team growth by completing projects in a timely manner.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor’s of Science and/or Engineering in Mechanical/Electrical/Systems Engineering or equivalent degree; Master’s preferred.

15 years of experience in automotive, lithium-ion battery or similar product design and development.

Adept in Requirements analysis.

Effective communicator, capable of concisely presenting highly technical information to customers and engineering teams, as well as effectively communicating with suppliers.

Experienced in design and architecture high voltage lithium-ion battery & thermal systems.

Educated on common automotive & industry standards.

Well-versed in the product design process.

Self-motivated problem solver; pays attention to the details.

Challenges the status quo and strives for continuous improvement.

Abides by safety standards and protocols.
