Summary:

The Plant Metallurgist is responsible for determining the most suitable materials and suitable heat treatment and galvanic processes for all products. This position is a “hands on” management position. Successful candidate will have full responsibility for the metallurgical laboratory, including testing, analysis, and continuous improvement activities.

*Due to ITAR requirements for government defense contractors, you must be a U.S. Person.*

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Management of the metallurgical laboratory

• Provide guidance and direction of materials selection for aerospace products

• Perform metallurgical and chemical analysis

• Provide heat treat and wet processing direction

• Assist to maintain NADCAP certification of UGM special processes

• Continuous Improvement

• Supervision of laboratory technicians

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science

• At least 5 years related experience in a manufacturing environment 

• Knowledge of Aerospace standards and specifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Experience with and use of metallurgical laboratory equipment

• Excellent documentation skills and proficient with Microsoft Office software

• Experience with manufacturing processes – Heat treatment (Carburizing, Induction Hardening), wet processing, machining, and NADCAP special processes 

• Ability to perform non-destructive testing and analytically read microstructures

• Due to ITAR regulations, must be a US Person 

• Experience with AS, ISO and FAA/EASA requirements 

• Self-motivated team player

• Hands on approach, willing to “roll up the sleeves”, and be a part of the solution 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Manages the metallurgical laboratory of UGM

• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws

• Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Most work will be done in a Laboratory environment but one will also be exposed to factory and product manufacturing environment. 

Must be willing and able to travel by all forms of transportation.
