Job Description

The Factory Manager is responsible for overseeing all factory operations in order to meet business objectives, the management of daily operations including the Beet processing campaign, Juice and Extract campaigns, Chemical Softening plant and Waste Water Treatment operations. 

The Factory Manager is responsible for safety leadership and environmental stewardship, hiring of department managers and hourly employees.  The Role oversees production planning, staffing and R&M direction.  It is responsible for all food safety requirements, SQF guidelines, safety and quality control.

Primary Responsibilities:

·         Maintains and assures all OSHA and maintenance safety procedures are followed.

·         Manage all people and processes impacting environmental operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Set business goals, performance standards and expectations through objectives and result tracking.

·         Set specific targets and timelines to achieve production goals, tracking results, providing feedback, and taking corrective actions as appropriate.

·         Is responsible and accountable for adhering to annual operations budget for the facility including  R&M, Capital planning, payroll, operating costs and losses through forecasting, tracking and reporting.

·         Ensure the facility meets or exceeds quality targets to ensure production sugar and byproducts meet feed and food safety and customer quality standards.  Together with customer service and QA personnel, investigate product quality issues, document and implement corrective action.

·         Ensure all employees comply with regulatory and company requirements for personal and facility safety.

·         Provide site leadership for continuous improvement processes within the Operations department.

·         Work with direct reports to optimize process and equipment maintenance spending to minimize downtime and enhance product output.

·         Organize with the maintenance manager R&M, projects and PM’s to maximize plant efficiency.

·         Identify and implement training and development for succession planning to ensure the necessary people skills and resources are applied currently and in the future.

·         Set continuous business development plans including identification and submission of capital and extraordinary maintenance projects to improve facility operations.

·         Assure all Feed and Food safety programs are followed as they relate to USDA and SQF.

·         On-Call for emergencies 24/7 as required.

·         Ensure effective administration of overall performance management, including performance reviews, for all employees within span of control.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or other technical degree highly desired.

·         Minimum of 10 years industrial plant related experience in a management role.

·         Alternatively, extensive industrial experience of 20+ years with progressive supervisory or management responsibilities.

·         Training or relevant exposure in supervision skills, quality assurance systems, environmental and safety regulations.

·         Strong leadership abilities, communication skills and understanding of mechanical equipment and chemical process.

·         Ability to clearly communicate strategy and vision to team members.

·         Proficient skills in company data management systems and Microsoft Office.

·         Ability to work in a matrix reporting environment desired.

·         Experience in the food industry preferred.

Required Training:

·         General factory safety requirements (Right to Know)

·         Food-related Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

·         Factory-related environmental regulations

·         SQF certification – principles or SQF

·         Knowledge of GMP+ standards
