Job Description

Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for optimizing the facility, as well as developing effective systems and processes.

 What you will be doing:

  • Initiate and implement best practices (product safety and quality, manufacturing capacity, process chemistry, etc.)
  • Design and develop all aspects of the HACCP and GMP program including: sanitation, sampling, microbiological and chemical food safety, hygiene and product specification
  • Build and develop processes to support optimum production, safety, and performance
  • Identify improvement and optimization opportunities
  • Provide technical expertise in the construction, design, commissioning, and overall operation of the facility
  • Participate in strategic business planning activities
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with other subject matter experts
  • Develop KPIs to track productivity, capacity utilization, and food safety
  • Maintain outstanding health and safety performance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (in Engineering or Applied Science - Chemical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Food)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (ideally from the APEGA or equivalent provincial association)
  • 5 – 10+ years of Process Engineering experience in a Lean manufacturing environment (food manufacturing highly desired)
  • Experience with HACCP and GMP programs
  • Experience in development and implementation of continuous improvement processes and procedures in a manufacturing environment
  • Robust understanding of standards and regulations governing food facilities
  • Strong analytical skills and fact-based decision-making capability

Additional Information

Work environment:

  • During construction, this position will be split between downtown Calgary and Strathmore, Alberta.  It will be full time in Strathmore after facility start-up
  • The candidate will report to the Plant Manager
