Job Description

Title: Design Engineer

Reports to: VP of Engineering

Job Purpose: Responsible for engineering design related activities

 Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Evaluates part samples and customer design documentation for critical characteristics/function;
  • Participates in advanced part quality planning activities;
  • Creates three-dimensional part models to support up/downstream design data requirements;
  • Designs tooling and check fixtures in support of manufacturing;
  • Creates part, tooling and fixture design documentation for internal/external distribution;
  • Creates and maintains ERP part data in support of manufacturing;
  • Validates first articles to approved part design;
  • Supports programming/operation of 2-axis CNC laser-cutting, plasma, mills, and tube bending machines;
  • Participates in Lean Manufacturing initiatives;
  • Serves as project launch lead for assigned projects- from start of project to completion;
  • Attends Engineering Design Reviews and Project Status Meetings;
  •  Ensures compliance of the Phoenix Stamping Design and Drawing manuals;
  • Investigates, coordinates and completes engineering change requests with appropriate groups;
  • Supports Engineering department and performs other duties as assigned or required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Self-directed/Organized

  • Respectful of others
  • Willing to get hands-on in a manufacturing environment
  • Capable of finding a way around, over or through challenges
  • Autodesk Inventor or similar 3-D modeling experience
