Job Description

Title:  Sales Engineer

Reports to:  Vice President of Sales & Business Development

Job Purpose:  Providing technical and project management expertise in sales and business development related activities

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Data and Process Management:

  • Contribute to the evaluation and development of operational strategy and performance in conjunction with the sales and management teams.
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Sales & Business Development to develop standardized tools, methodologies and business processes aimed at improving operational efficiency.
  • Responsible for the collection, analysis, and reporting of sales related data and KPIs in an ongoing effort to increase overall sales productivity and improve decision making.
  • Work closely with Vice President of Sales & Business Development to manage the analysis of major and critical developing accounts and coordinate the management of these accounts.
  • Analyze and track the return on investments (ROIs) as it pertains to investments made for quoted items.
  • Establish and implement short and long-range goals, specifically those tied to sales strategy and budgeting for specific fiscal periods.

RFQ Management and New Product Development Support:

  • Participate in the development and administration of new project proposals (from start to completion of project) to include costing, quoting, and tracking the results of customer RFQs.
  • Participates in advanced part quality planning activities.
  • Creates three-dimensional part models to support up/downstream design data requirements for R&D projects.
  • Manage and maintain the Pre-Production Checklist (PPC) as it relates to the process, meetings, and all documentation.

Technical Lead:

  • Establish technical knowledge on products, processes, and markets and act as technical support to other members of the Sales Department.
  • Support customer sales calls and willing to travel (up to 25%) for visits in an effort to identify new product opportunities.
  • Evaluate part samples and/or customer design documentation for critical characteristics and function.
  • Remain informed of all Lean initiatives and champion continuous improvement efforts where appropriate.

General Department Support:

  • Provide exceptional customer service to customers.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment as established by company 6S and safety initiatives
  • Ensure activities meet with and integrate with organizational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care.
  • Execute all responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards as established by company policies and procedures.
  • Support Sales department and perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other technical undergraduate degree preferred or significant equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of and experience in manufacturing processes required (metal stamping, fabrication, or fastener manufacturing preferred)
  • Demonstrated project management experience across cross-functional manufacturing groups
  • Lean manufacturing and quality system experience required (ISO 9001:2015 preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite especially Microsoft Excel
  • Autodesk AutoCad, Inventor or similar modeling experience
  • Self-directed/organized, strong work ethic, positive attitude, works well in teams, customer focused and accountable for actions
  • Team player who enjoys challenging situations
  • Ability to learn basic programming skills as necessary to support RFQ process
  • Must be willing to and able to travel ~25% of time
