Job Description

The Merchandise Planner is responsible for building financial and purchasing plans to meet sales, inventory, and gross margin targets. The planner will be responsible for driving profitable sales through PharmaCann’s wholesale and retail sales channels.This includes maintaining adequate inventory to meet demand, advising where to allocate inventory to obtain the best sell through, analyzing historical data to identify market trends, and amplifying top sellers while taking action on under-performing inventory to maintain healthy margins. This position works closely with the Company’s Production Planning, Marketing, Buying, Retail and Accounting teams.The planner is a key partner in developing assortment and promotion strategies to drive sales and profit. 

Essential Functions:

  • Work with the buying team to drive strategic merchandise financial plans to support inventory and product assortment objectives.

  • Analyze pricing data and margins; Work with finance to develop accurate forecasts at desired margin levels

  • Support sales, margin and overall business initiatives by managing inventory levels, including expiring inventory, in-stock and inventory turnover

  • Develop and communicate comprehensive category-level product strategies.

  • Analyze past sales figures/trends to anticipate future product demand

  • Review key selling and inventory metrics, reading trends and reacting accordingly by managing inventory to align to trends

  • Manage annual, seasonal, monthly & quarterly merchandise strategies to maximize revenue and increase profit margins for the retail business.

  • Partners with retail and takes action as needed on slow moving inventory

  • Creates competitive pricing to maximize profit on Top Sellers in conjunction with margin goals

  • Prepares commercial plan along with cross functional partners and presents analysis and initiatives on a weekly and monthly basis

  • Maintain weekly, monthly & quarterly reports on planned vs actualized shipped inventory, retail receipts, retail inventory, retail sales & forecast accuracy.

  • Make recommendations to management on opportunities to bring in additional inventory or delay delivery of inventory due to surplus.

  • Participate in the development of new tools that support management of Supply Chain KPI’s

  • Support ad hoc project requests from Management.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, economics, business analytics, retail merchandising, or related field.

  • 5-7 years’ experience as a merchandise planner, demand planner, supply planner, or inventory analyst. Merchandise planner experience preferred. Strong knowledge and experience with financial modeling.

  • Strong background in a variety of inventory management concepts, practices and procedures.

  • Experienced in using an ERP system, planning tool, and BI for reporting.

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, highly proficient in Excel (e.g., Excel formulas, V- lookups, pivot tables) and has skill in preparing tables, graphs, and charts.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong knowledge of inventory accounting principles and controls.

  • Ability to create and implement effective processes & procedures.

  • Must possess a strong results and goal/deadline-oriented work ethic with high attention to detail.

  • Excellent organizational skills, with ability to manage and complete multiple assignments concurrently.
