Job Description

The Associate Director of Media & Performance helps lead and manage the media and performance team within the larger Communications Strategy Department of the agency. They should be comfortable and seasoned in full-funnel media planning, with an emphasis in upper-funnel digital and social, but a solid working knowledge and POV on offline, performance marketing and search. They will help build and present strategic, sound media recommendations, manage day-to-day media strategy and implementation across their accounts, and collaborate closely with Brand Strategy and Creative to create the best possible execution plan according to the strategic vision for a campaign. They should be great at considering the whole picture to make sure EVERY channel works together to create the most powerful consumer experience and delivers against client goals. This role will also help lead and manage the growth and evolution of our performance and analytics programs, including overseeing search strategy and its role in the broader media landscape and optimizing and overseeing current practices for reporting and analytics. This position will serve as a thought-leader in the media and performance space for the agency and our clients to help improve the integration and understanding of best practices and creative executions across channels and platforms. This role will manage a team of strategists and analysts to fulfill the day-to-day tactical needs of accounts and requires someone who works well in a collaborative, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Successful candidates will be self-starters who are eager to learn quickly, find solutions, and take the initiative to execute client asks and agency needs with excellence. 

Qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Function as the day-to-day contact for your brands when they are looking for answers to any campaign execution or performance questions, partnership direction, POVs and project updates as requested
  • Work collaboratively with brand strategists to create briefs, brainstorm on new projects, and act as a partner that brings more media thinking to every opportunity presented
  • Help develop strategic, thoughtful cross-channel media plans that are built with our clients’ goals in mind
  • Determine KPIs and solid measurement action plans to track and improve campaign effectiveness and overall success
  • Manage and assist in the analysis of cross-channel media data, build reporting, and provide insights for optimization
  • Develop and present plan optimization recommendations based on insights
  • Develop/maintain relationships with media partners 
  • Oversee the tracking of account spending and collaborate with Finance to maintain up-to-date billing trackers
  • Keep up to date with the latest media trends, providing POVs when applicable
  • Act as a thought-leader within the agency for new ways of thinking about media and performance- presenting a strong POV and actionable ways to lean into trends and emerging platforms
  • Oversee development of contracts and insertion orders, with extreme attention to detail
  • Maintain vendor contacts for media kits and rates needed for strategy development
  • Lead the media planning, measurement, and performance process for your assigned clients, including initial research, media strategy development, RFP process, plan development and presentation, and measurement action plan development and execution
  • Manage trafficking and Q/A of all digital creative within ad server technology
  • Manage vendor billing reconciliation
  • Help lead task force with other key agency stakeholders to determine the growth and future of analytics at the agency
  • Identify and help build organic growth opportunities within existing client base
  • Identify and sell in key tools and processes for building on capabilities
  • Participate in new business opportunities as they are presented and appropriate
  • Provide management and oversight to Assistant Communications Strategist, Search Specialist, and Data and Insights Strategist
  • Initiate meetings with publishers in the effort to keep updated on industry trends
  • Support managers on other various projects and tasks as requested        

Requirements and Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising, Marketing, Communications, or a related field
  • 6-8 years in media planning and buying in an agency setting working in the online space on national brands
  • Experience and skill using common media tools: Simmons/MRI, Google Campaign Manager (DCM), Social Platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
  • Experience in the development and execution of measurement and performance for campaigns
  • Experience using Comms Point, ComScore, and Global Web Index a plus
  • Experience planning and buying digital and social required; experience in offline channels (i.e. print, OOH, broadcast) preferred
  • Experience in entertainment, sports, or other fast-paced, brand-driven categories preferred
  • Voracious curiosity, (asking why? and what next?) and the ability to make lateral leaps in thinking 
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills                
  • Analytically strong with proven ability to demonstrate data interpretation capabilities
  • Entrepreneurial and solutions-oriented philosophy
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once
