Job Description

We are hiring for a Part-Time Insurance Verification Specialist to join our billing team. This position will be for 20 hours a week - and you can work with the billing manager on the days and times.

The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for verification of insurance coverage and updating the patients’ insurance portfolio in the electronic record keeping system. Some duties for this position include:

  1. Maintains confidentiality of personal and financial information.
  2. Protects patient confidentiality by making sure protected health information is secured by not leaving PHI in plain sight and logging off the computer before leaving unattended.
  3. Work in collaboration with other members of the health care team in order to ensure patients receive timely care.
  4. Interpret reports from which to obtain insurance verification of benefits on office visits and enter this information on the patient's account.
  5. Update notes in computer as to information obtained and carrier contact information.
  6. Provide updated information to other staff as needed.
  7. Utilizes insurance verification websites to check for current insurance coverage for patients.
  8. updates the insurance information in the patient's electronic health record.

Qualifications

  1. High School diploma or GED required
  2. Prior experience with health insurance preferred
  3. Strong computer skills
  4. Good oral and written communication skills
  5. Highly organized, attentive to detail, quality and accuracy
  6. Strong commitment to customer service and professionalism
  7. Ability to interrelate with a wide variety of people and cultures
  8. Ability to work under pressure
  9. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
  10. Ability to communicate effectively in person and on the telephone with the public, patients, and staff
