Job Description

The School Cafeteria Support person will assist with our daily lunch program supervision. This position will help create a safe, welcoming, and orderly lunch environment for students while supporting the kitchen team with daily tasks. 

The ideal candidate enjoys working around students, is willing to jump in wherever needed, and can work cooperatively as part of a school kitchen team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor students during the lunch period to help maintain a safe, respectful, and positive environment.
  • Assist with cafeteria and kitchen tasks as directed by kitchen staff or school administration.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, trays, and other kitchen equipment.
  • Help with basic food service and cafeteria preparation as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cafeteria and kitchen areas.
  • Assist kitchen staff with daily cleanup and other routine duties.
  • Serve as a substitute/fill-in for other kitchen staff when they are absent.
  • Follow all school, food safety, sanitation, and health procedures.
  • Interact with students and staff in a friendly, professional, and appropriate manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule

This is a part-time position, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Additional hours may occasionally be available when providing coverage for absent kitchen staff.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or in a school setting preferred.
  • Previous food service, kitchen, cafeteria, or cleaning experience is helpful but not required.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks independently when needed.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to assist wherever needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, reach, lift, and carry supplies and kitchen items as needed.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as washing dishes and cleaning.
  • Ability to safely perform duties in a busy kitchen and cafeteria environment.

Additional Information

This position is eligible for a MEC insurance plan and 403B retirement.
