People Can Fly is one of the leading independent AAA games development studios with an international team of hundreds of talented individuals working from offices located in Poland, UK, US, and Canada, and from all over the world thanks to our remote work programs.

Founded in 2002, we made our mark on the shooter genre with titles such as Painkiller, Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgment, and Outriders. We are one of the most experienced Unreal Engine studios in the industry and we are expanding it with in-house solutions called PCF Framework.

Our creative teams are currently working on several exciting titles: Gemini is our new project being developed with Square Enix; Maverick is a Triple-A game developed in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation; Bifrost & Victoria are projects we're growing in the self-publishing model. We are also busy working on a VR and undisclosed projects, more information on those to come later.

Job Description

To conceptually visualize coherent world, character, and prop elements in order to guide and inspire game content creators.

Maintain artistic direction and quality

  • Set the quality for our environments, characters, weapons, vehicles and any other needed visual aspect for our games.
  • Research and collect valuable visual reference material.
  • Cooperation on setting artistic vision benchmarks and helping define the style under Art Director/Lead supervision, as well as maintaining the quality standards across the entire development pipeline.

Production/Deadline

  • Produce work within specifications and maintain workflow pipelines within given deadlines.

Feedback

  • Participate in reviews, adapt to, and implement feedback from leads and peers in a professional manner.
  • Provide feedback and improvement to visual quality.

Collaboration/communication 

  • Communication with artists, designers, and other disciplines to create engaging concepts.
  • Consider the gameplay implications of the design and the overall player experience.
  • Knowledge sharing.
  • Occasionally support leads and HR collaboration in recruitment efforts.
  • Occasionally support new hires onboarding process.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in AAA console/PC game development
  • A strong portfolio showcasing concept ideation, and visual storytelling through art design.
  • Extremely strong traditional art skills along with foundational design competencies (shape, form, texture, value and color).
  • Strong industrial design skills.
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy, and facial structure.
  • Strong industrial design skills.
  • Good understanding of 3D package to use in workflow support.
  • Advanced knowledge of current concept art workflows and practices.
  • Adaptive 
  • Ability to adapt, and develop specific art style, techniques and workflows with minimum guidance.
  • Strong mentoring skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with department leads, and different departments to solve artistic challenges while maintaining consistency of design.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Self-motivation.

Nice to have:

  • Vector art creation (Flash, Illustrator).
  • Graphic design.
  • 3D software knowledge. (Maya/Max/Blender/SketchUp/3D coat).
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine.
