Job Description

We are looking for Senior GIS Expert for our Client from Brussels, Belgium.
Services shall be performed 20 % of the time on-site in the Client`s office in Brussels and 80 % of the services can be performed with remote service provision (home-working).

The objective of the work is to assist the team in the management and further development of the Energy and Industry Geography Lab. Furthermore, this work will support various spatial assessments the unit is carrying out at the moment. For those spatial assessments, GIS
support is needed for spatial calculations, joining, manipulation and management of datasets as well as the creation of maps and visuals.

The tasks to be covered by the work comprise amongst others:

 Collection, and management of spatial data in a structured/harmonized manner from various databases, as well as the updating of datasets.
 Work with a variety of spatial data formats and software packages.
 Updating of existing datasets of the Energy and Industry Geography Lab
 Improving the performance of the EIGL by simplification of complex layers, clustering and deploying scale dependent views and caching
 Designing, preparing, managing, and displaying layers, map layouts, web apps, story maps, etc., as
well as the preparation of related image files for further processing by graphical designers
 Identifying issues with existing GIS system and suggesting open-source alternatives
 Interaction with the business analysts, customer, users, project leaders and the developers

The tasks will be carried out in close collaboration with other team members (energy analysts, web manager, and project leader.

Qualifications

 Very good knowledge of GIS in general, and ArcGIS and QGIS in particular
 Ability to apply high quality standards
 Very good communication skills
 Analysis and problem solving skills
 Capability to write clear and structured technical documents
 Ability to participate in technical meetings and good communication skills

Following specific expertise is mandatory for the performance of tasks:


 Providing expertise in GIS strategies, architectures and technologies
 Conducting GI data analysis and data modelling
 Administration of GIS software
 Development, testing and maintenance of GIS web applications and GIS services;
 Monitoring and testing of the GIS architecture;
 Update and maintenance of geographical databases;
 Data quality checks;
 Writing of technical documentation
 Excellent and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office package (especially excel and word)
 Knowledge of Python and ArcGIS API for Python
 Basic knowledge of Java
 Experience with ESRI solutions
