Job Description

Supports the overall accounting function for the Credit Union by developing, processing and analyzing data and information from across the organization.

Accounting Administration

  • Responsible for preparing and/or posting accounting transactions relating to day-to-day activities of the Credit Union including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, capital assets, deferred revenue, employee expenses, foreign exchange and more.  Requires a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a very high level of accuracy in the work done.
  • Maintains, reconciles, prepares and/or posts complex spreadsheets relating to Credit Union branches, products and services including but not limited to mortgage broker fees, cashback mortgages, Class B investment shares, index-linked term deposits, inter-branch transactions and more.  Requires demonstrated experience creating, manipulating and reading Excel workbooks.

Payroll Administration

  • Ensures that all aspects of the payroll cycle for 100+ employees are processed in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with Credit Union policy using a complex payroll software package.  Requires a high degree of both accuracy and confidentiality.

Account Reconciliations

  • Responsible for completing all monthly bank reconciliations on the Credit Union’s various Canadian and US accounts.  Requires the ability to efficiently and effectively analyze and synthesize large volumes of information to identify transactions requiring follow-up.
  • Investigates all reconciling items fully and on a timely basis for review by the Financial Controller.  Requires extensive use of problem-solving and analytical skills. 
  • Responsible for preparation of reconciliations on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis and all investigation related thereto.

Financial Reporting

  • Supports the work of the internal and external audit providers through the preparation of a wide variety of routine and adhoc reports.  Requires experience summarizing and communicating complex financial information in a meaningful way.
  • Contributes to the development of the annual budget through the preparation of various financial reports as directed by the Financial Controller and Director of Finance.  Requires strong collaboration skills and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team on a large-scale project of strategic importance to the organization.
  • Assists with the preparation of the monthly financial reports that are required for presentation to the Credit Union’s Board of Directors and the provincial regulator.  Requires demonstrated success in producing highly accurate reports in a time-sensitive environment.

Property Management

  • Negotiate, maintain and administer all leases for premises owned by the Credit Union.  Requires experience with contract management and a proven ability to provide quality customer service to both internal and external tenants.
  • Serve as primary liaison with tenants and facilities management consultant to ensure that tenants concerns are addressed in an effective and efficient manner.  Requires the demonstrated ability to problem-solve and communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Perform other assigned responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent experience in a business/finance environment
  • 5+ years of accounting and payroll experience
