Job Description

How you’ll have an impact at Paula’s Choice:  The Enterprise Database Developer and Administrator will be the principal data steward in our enterprise.  As such, you’ll be at the core of managing key decisionable data for the business.  The primary function of this role is to develop database solutions that enable better business intelligence as we support our customers with world class customer relations.  This is a deeply technical role that supports Product Owners, Business Analysts and Technical Program Managers and translates business requirements / stories into execution.  It is very detail-oriented and requires personal ownership to keep us safe, secure, and efficient.

 

This is an incredible opportunity to “do it right” as we build a new Data Warehouse and standardize KPI’s globally.

 

As an Enterprise Database Developer & Administrator, a typical day might include a mix of the following:

  • Provide technical leadership in design, architecture, development and support of the entire data sourcing platform (on premise and in Azure) with a focus on high availability, performance, scalability and maintenance
  • Analyze, understand and make sense of complex source data, create data models, and determine the best methods for data staging ETL/ELTL into the data warehouse
  • Design and develop data warehouse tables (star schemas, dimension tables, etc.) for fast data analytics
  • Manage foundational data administration tasks such as scheduling jobs, troubleshooting job errors, identifying issues with job windows, database backups and performance tuning
  • Develop, contribute, and adhere to the development of standards and sound procedural practices in compliance with PC’s Data Regulatory Council’s rules.
  • Create or update technical documentation
  • ·Develop automated data audit and validation processes
  • Develop and deploy workflows with reliable error/exception handling and rollback
  • Proactively communicate innovative ideas, solutions, and capabilities over and above specific task requests
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter, detail and quality oriented and ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
  • Must be a strong team player with a positive attitude and enthusiasm to get things done.
  • Presentation skills to various levels of the organization including executive management.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal skills and experience.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by your manager

 

The details:

Location:  Seattle, WA (Temporarily remote)

Hours:  Typical business hours (45 hours/week).  Times flexible.  24/7 Support rotation (one week on, several weeks off, etc.)

Qualifications

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • 5+ years ETL/ELTL development experience preferably using Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools with deep and thorough hands-on use of SSIS
  • 5+ years of intense experience in relational and data warehouse database design, optimization and performance; preferably with MS SQL Server
  • Proven understanding of business requirements and the ability to interpret DW architectures and execution.
  • 3+ years development using C#, .Net Framework
  • Experience with Web services development (SOAP, REST)
  • Strong in Object Oriented Programming, Design patterns, and SOLID principles

  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI
  • Geek out over big data, data lakes, Python, and R
