Job Description

Our mission is to provide an Underwriting Reinsurance Intern with a professional work experience and offer learning opportunities focused on the insurance and reinsurance industry through exposure to the various integral functions within our reinsurance organization, with particular emphasis on Underwriting and Underwriting Operations, to help attract and prepare interns for a future career in this industry.

Reporting to: PartnerRe U.S. P&C Treaty Underwriting LATAM Department.

Duties & Responsibilities

Over the course of this 8-week program, the selected intern will be immersed in the property & casualty reinsurance industry. Interns are entrusted to work on business activities and projects that will have an impact on PartnerRe underwriting. 

The program will involve both educational and project-based components. Educational sessions will cover Actuarial, Treaty and Facultative Underwriting, Claims, Operations, Accounting, and Catastrophe Modelling. Interns can anticipate not only gaining a broad understanding of the (re)insurance industry, but also starting to develop or refine key skills essential for a successful professional career, including personal time management, business etiquette, presentation skills, networking opportunities and exposure to senior management.

Qualifications

We are looking for well-rounded, energetic, and talented students who possess the following criteria:

  • Currently a Junior or Senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree (above 3.0 GPA preferred) or a Graduate pursing a master’s degree.
  • Majors in risk management, actuarial science, mathematics, economics, accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
  • Fully bilingual (oral and written), English and Spanish required. Portuguese is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience in conducting research.
  • Analytically minded.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Interested in learning about business operations in reinsurance and risk management.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work in a collaborative team.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
