Job Description

The Senior Mechanic preforms all tasks and duties of a mechanical discipline including but not limited to, installing and maintaining engines, hydraulic motors, pumps, compressors, and miscellaneous mechanical devices. The position is responsible for all mechanical drilling equipment pertaining to the drilling of the well, including circulating, rotating, hoisting or well control systems.

Essential functions

  • Support the HSE objective of no injuries, accidents or harm to the environment as it relates to all mechanical processes, procedures, and policies.
  • Promote operational excellence through procedural discipline.
  • Delegate work effectively with a clear definition of requirements and expectations.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety of those working under direct supervision.
  • Comply with emergency response plan or Work Safe Procedures during emergencies and/ or drills.
  • Responsible for morale and order within crew.
  • Ensure Authorized To Operate (ATO) and Approved Competent Operator (ACO) are applied and followed.
  • Understand LO/TO and Permit to Work procedures.
  • Maintain and repair mechanical equipment and devices.
  • Repair or replace defective or worn parts.
  • Lubricate and service mechanical equipment as specified on lubrication schedule.
  • Perform inspections of mechanical equipment as required.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all mechanical equipment.
  • Adjust or regulate functional parts of machinery, devices, and control instruments.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze mechanical malfunctions and failures.
  • Read and analyze mechanical drawings, schematics and equipment manuals.
  • Create Job requests and work orders as required and enter into maintenance tracking system.
  • Coordinate with Rig Manager/Maintenance Superintendent on the maintenance, repair and refurbishment of equipment.
  • Foresee potential equipment malfunctions or failures and preforms required repairs, adjustments or modification to resolve the problem.
  • Respond to emergencies as requested and coordinate onsite activities to utilize resources to facilitate repairs in the most expedient and cost effective manner.
  • Ensure an adequate amount of spare parts are on hand at all times.
  • Submit requisitions to Rig Manager for approval.
  • Maintain records of all mechanical inventories and place orders as required within budgetary limits.
  • Set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder and other metalworking tools to facilitate any necessary repairs.
  • Perform additional duties, responsibilities, and special projects as may be directed.

Additional functions

 Perform duties in accordance with work instructions;  Knowledge of and compliance with Company and Customer health safety and environment policies and practices;  Understand and follow site safety plan and procedures;  Provides failure-free and technically correct operation safe performance of equipment, keeping in good operating condition on desired level;  Organizes inter-repair maintenance, timely and high-quality repair and modernization of equipment, works on increasing its reliability and durability, technical supervision of the condition, maintenance, repair of major and minor equipment, ensures the rational use of materials for repair;  Supervise adjustment and alignment, new equipment utilization, in equipment tests, in equipment acceptance, in equipment removal from operations;  Examine equipment, separate units and component parts working condition, develop and make arrangements for unplanned equipment shut-down prevention, separate units and component parts service life, overhaul life extension, improve integrity of equipment, in service reliability improvement, arrange specialized repair on the rig;  Takes part in equipment excessive wear, down time root causes  investigation, in incidents investigation, in development and implementation of liquidation and prevention activities;  Maintain control for equipment installation, proper equipment storage at warehouse, check and provide lifting and other equipment to government technical control in time; Improve service treatment of operating equipment, repair and preventative maintenance arrangement based on labor mechanization and advanced technologies application, subordinates work management improvement;  Fulfill requirements for PTW permit to work as required to perform duties;  Fulfill requirements to safely perform isolations of mechanical equipment following the LOTO guidelines and procedures;  Responsible to service, maintain and diagnose symptoms on the drilling rig equipment;  Responsible to repair both minor and major equipment failures on drilling rig equipment;  Responsible for rigging up/down the drilling rig as applicable;  Ensure that all maintenance-related procedures are carried out in a safe manner and in compliance with the regulations of the company and accordingly with good engineering practices;  Responsible for keeping Company required reports information current as regards of area of responsibility  Supervisor;  Responsible for keeping the Maintenance Supervisor informed on operating dependability status of equipment;  Responsible to assign daily tasks for the mechanical assistant to perform;  Responsible for creating and requesting materials using approve company Field Requests forms to the maintenance supervisor for review and further processing;  Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order; Disassemble defective equipment, replace defective or worn parts, and reassemble equipment, using hand tools;  Perform skilled and unskilled laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of equipment; Raise, lower, or position (rigging) equipment, tools, and materials, using hoist, hand line, come along and chain falls as required to perform repairs;  Using basic hand tools and tools applicable to trade;  Responsible for carrying out any and all work as assigned;  Responsible to attend company identified training as required; Participates in scheduled training and in safety activities  Responsible knowledge of assigned station duties during BOP and any other drills;  Responsible for helping the other members of the rig crew when necessary;  When working at heights:  Carry out work planning;  Coach employees how to use equipment, devices, mechanisms;  Check the serviceability of equipment and devices;  Keep documentation on work with equipment and PPE;  Utilize the appropriate PPE and inspect them before use.  Participates actively in Company and Customer Safety Enhancement Programs  Must adhere to company policy with regards to PPE base on job being performed;  Responsible for personal actions while on tour;  Training of fellow workers as given opportunities arise;  Responsible for the growth, through training, of the mechanical assistant within the framework of the mechanical trade;  Promotion of good attitude among fellow workers.  Performs one-time requests of the management;  Due to operational need, can be assigned to perform duties of below mentioned roles during working hours:  Assistant mechanic;  Slinger of the 6th category;  Adhere to Internal Labour Conduct Code;  Adhere to rules for labor protection and fire safety.

Qualifications

Necessary qualifications, skills and abilities

  • Able to identify and understand functionality of various rig equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain certifications and licenses necessary as required by the appropriate regulatory authorities.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in basic rigger’s role to ensure safe lifting operations are performed.
  • Knowledgeable of mechanical systems and be skilled at working with hand and power tools.
  • Must possess mathematical skills required for certification as a mechanic.
  • Must have proficient knowledge of diagnostic equipment.
  • Must be a self-motivator and work without close supervision.
  • Must be able to prioritize jobs and work under tight time constraints.
  • Can demonstrate knowledge and fundamentals of the following equipment: o Hoisting equipment o Pipe handling equipment o Rotating equipment o Circulating equipment o Hydraulic equipment o Diesel engine/air compressors
  • Must possess sound reasoning skills, good common sense and have the ability to follow directions.
  • Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of him/her or others.
  • Must be able to recognize hazards, alarms, warnings and the ability to convey these to the proper personnel.
  • Should have good verbal communication skills and be able to effectively communicate in with staff, management, customers and vendors.
  • Education, experience, and certifications: o High School diploma is required. o Must be able to obtain appropriate offshore or, onshore certifications o Should have at least 5 years of work experience as a mechanic, oil and gas industry preferred

Additional qualifications, skills and abilities

A person with secondary vocational education, Electrical Safety certificate (required group); Man Lift Operator License (if required) can be appointed for the position of Chief Mechanic. A person with 5-7 years` work experience can be appointed for the position of the Chief Mechanic. Chief Mechanic shall be familiar with: - The technological process of drilling wells for oil, gas, for the detection of thermal, iodine-bromine water and other minerals; - Drill Rig Maintenance team Organization; - Equipment operation and maintenance operations scheduling methods and procedures, able to use a preventative maintenance planning system Oracle; - Chief mechanic must have a good working knowledge of topdrive, drawworks, iron roughneck, pipe handling systems, and engine driven cranes; - Chief mechanic should have a basic working knowledge of pressure fluid systems; - Must have the ability to read, understand, and interpret mechanical drawings, piping and instrument diagrams, manufacture supplied manuals for rig equipment; - Drill rig equipment productive capability, technical specifications, constructional features, application and operation mode, operating procedures; - Assembly methods and equipment maintenance, organization and equipment repair technology; - Defect list preparation procedure; passports, spare parts and equipment drawings, equipment manuals and other technical documentation reading; - Equipment delivery and acceptance after repair; - Requirements for the quality of work performed; - Types of faults and methods for its prevention and elimination; - Industrial alarm; - Rules for the protection of the environment and subsoil; - Rules for using personal protective equipment (PPE); - Requirements for the rational organization of labor in the workplace; - The procedure for notifying the supervisor of all shortcomings discovered during work; - The rules for the provision of first aid to victims of trauma, poisoning and sudden illness; - The rules of internal labor regulations; - Working knowledge of Microsoft office and ability to perform computer functions to update Oracle for equipment maintenance.
