Job Description

Position Summary:         

While embodying the organization’s values, the Supervising Registered Nurse (RN) provides oversight and direction for staff observation of self-administered medications by clients; while developing and maintaining the policies and procedures for self-administration of medication by clients for the facility. 

Essential Functions:       

  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for medication self-administration, including the Observation of Self-Administration of Medications (OSAM) policy
  • Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; coordinating work schedules; managing performance, and developing personal growth opportunities
  • Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards
  • Provide guidance and serve as a resource for questions or concerns regarding client medication self-administration
  • Ensure proper disposal of client medications following the company’s guidelines
  • Monitor documentation of client medication self-administration, storage, and disposal and use of emergency and over-the-counter medications as required
  • Serve as the point of contact for any medication errors and document resolution of such errors
  • Act as a consultant to clients for assessment of their ability to manage self-administration of medication safely; including consultation on any schedule II-V medications that are identified in the Controlled Substances Act (CSA)
  • Maintain the Staff Medication Resource Manual
  • Achieve facility and company vision and objectives through practice of Traction, including regular meetings, quarterly goals, and accountability to the Operations Process·         Demonstrate understanding and monitor organizational compliance with all appropriate professional standards, licensing and certification requirements
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and ethical demeanor with clients and within the community while following a strict code of ethics
  • Maintain regular communication with the Clinical Director regarding information pertinent to program management

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must possess strong leadership and management competencies; able to teach, coach, and consult with staff across the organization; previous supervision experience preferred
  • Knowledge of MN Statute, Chapter 245G and licensing and its application to the department and company’s policy and procedures; or the ability to gain knowledge after training
  • Must know and understand the implications of MN Statute, Chapters 245G (Chemical Dependency Licensed Treatment Facilities) and section 245A.65 (Maltreatment of Vulnerable Adults) and sections 626.556 (Reporting of Maltreatment of Minors), 626.557 (Reporting of Maltreatment of Vulnerable Adults), and 626.5572 (Definitions)
  • Ability to work, plan, organize, and evaluate work in alignment with company values, goals, policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships with co-workers
  • Ability to establish priorities, manage projects, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and electronic medical record system; or the ability to gain proficiency after training

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in the state of Minnesota, in good standing
  • Must obtain and maintain required continuing education units and training

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be free of chemical use problems for at least the two years immediately preceding hire
  • Must pass a background check through the Minnesota Department of Human Services

Normal office equipment used daily

Environmental/Working Conditions:

This position works in a substance abuse co-occurring disorders treatment facility, primarily in an office setting.  There will be frequent interaction with persons who are chemically dependent, with mental health diagnoses, and/or who experience emotional instability.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position; expected work hours are a minimum of 40 per week, Monday through Friday

Travel:

0-5% travel expected daily; locally between programming buildings, within a 3-mile radius
