Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, the Co-occurring Counselor manages a case load of clients and other duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1.  Conduct individualized client treatment sessions weekly.
  2.  Facilitate gender-specific treatment groups. 
  3. Comply with Rule 245G requirements regarding paperwork and documentation.
  4. Provide support and intervention in crisis situations. 
  5. Coordinate and work together with the mental health and social work teams, community agencies and resources. 
  6. Participate in multidisciplinary staffing meetings weekly.
  7. Participate in weekly supervision meetings with Clinical Supervisor.
  8. Work alongside peers to offer and receive support when needed.
  9. Maintain professional relationship with clients while following a strict code of ethics.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1.    Must have a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor license under Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 245G.11, have the ability to receive a temporary permit, or meet 245G licensing requirements for qualified staff by other means.
2.    Counselors exempt under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 148F, must meet one of the following additional requirements: (a) completion of at least a baccalaureate degree with a major or concentration in social work, nursing, sociology, human services, or psychology, or licensure as a registered nurse; successful completion of a minimum of 120 hours of classroom instruction in which each of the core functions listed in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 148F is covered; and successful completion of 440 hours of supervised experience as an alcohol and drug counselor, either as a student or as a staff member; (b) completion of 270 hours of alcohol and drug counselor training in which each of the core functions listed in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 148F, is covered, and successful completion of 880 hours of supervised experience as an alcohol and drug counselor, either as a student, or as a staff member; (c) current certification as an alcohol and drug counselor or alcohol and drug counselor reciprocal, through the evaluation process established by the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse, Inc., (d) completion of a bachelor's degree including 480 hours of alcohol and drug counseling education from an accredited school or educational program and 880 hours of alcohol and drug counseling practicum; or (e) employment in a program formerly licensed under parts 9530.5000 to 9530.6400 and successful completion of 6,000 hours of supervised work experience in a licensed program as an alcohol and drug counselor prior to January 1, 2005.
3.    Must demonstrate competence in screening for and working with clients with co-occurring disorders, through education, training, and experience.
4.    Must comply with the rules adopted under MN Statutes, chapter 148F.
5.    Must possess good verbal skills and present a positive professional image.
6.    At the time of hiring, must be free of chemical use problems for at least the two years immediately preceding and sign a statement attesting to that fact.
7.    Must pass a background check through the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

Additional Information

Hours for this position are Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri. from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Wed. flexible day hours.  Supervision is available for those working towards their LPCC and LMFT Licensure.
